General Discussion / Re: Say hi to the new guy!

Sorry but I think that "Nissan, VW, and Mitsubshi" and high performance" is an oxymoron in my book. The Germans have built some great cars but VW is not one of them.  The US hasn't built hgh performance cars since the way early 70's.

Sorry about the generational gap but I've got underwear older than you.  Hey...welcome to the sight.    And enjoy the vision of the old Detroit Muscle.    J.R.

I don't think that a 454 would look odd in a Z.   I've seen plenty with automatics  and drum brakes.
Yeah.....right.     J.R.

One 69 that's finished.  Looking at a 69 SS project car that's dirt cheap, i might add.  Don't think that the owner has ever visited ebay to check out the prices of basket cases.      J.R.

Yeah, I just got a chance to check it out.  Think I'll not even be visiting.  There just hasn't been a Camaro built since '72 IMHO  J.R.

I've scuffed up a lot of things with vice grips....but not always intentionally.    ;)  J.R.

Maintenance / Re: 67 RS drivers door is locked and won't open

If your car is driveable, take it to about any lock shop (call first) and see if they can open it with the ole reliable slim jiim. It's worth a try.  If they can get it unlocked, then just drive home and take it apart there.  If the're unable to unlock, then they may not even charge you for trying. But then, you have to go through the seat removal  routine as already mentioned.   Good luck.   J.R.

I discovered it a couple of days ago that my old bookmark still takes me to search archives.   I was looking for info to convert to an HEI.     BTW, what plug and gap would one reccomend with the HEI?    Thanks   J.R.

Mild Modifications / Re: 700R4 conversion in a '68
« on: October 24, 2005, 08:08:43 PM »
I've got a 2004R in a 72 El Camino that I got a few month ago. It has a shift kit and manually controlled lock up converter.  The motor is only a GoodWrench 350 but it is a great driver.   The transmission saw many miles in a 87 SS Monte Carlo and was not babied and it still shifts great.   I agree that they should be a relative reliable trans under all but the most severe driving.

The Elky originally had a TH 350 and I believe the 200 was a bolt in operation.  Not sure.   Owner had been retired a couple of years and had moved out of state and left several project cars for his son-in-law to sell.      J.R.

Mikey.,..wish that i'd known that before I spent $20 for a new glass.  If the driver side ever goes south, I'll give it a try.

Maintenance / Re: Door and window weather stripping
« on: October 19, 2005, 05:03:14 AM »
dab......It's been years since I went through replacing the weather striping but I had the interior out of the car at the same time and remember spending a great deal of time trying to get the pieces to fit back together.  Also rebuilt the front window regulators  so nothing fit properly.  Just took a great deal of trial and error. Have you pulled the door panels to see if you have internal adjustment to the window glass?

Even today, my doors are rather hard to close when all the windows are rolled up. But I don't have any wind noise either.

Behind the glass, there are 2 phillips screws that you use can use to increase the preasure on the pivot ball.  Problem is getting the glass out without breaking it.   I almost had the glass out of mine when it broke in 2 pieces.   Cost me $20 to have a piece of smoked mirror cut to size but it doesn't flop around any more.   Don't know of a trick to fix any other way.  Maybe someone out there has a quick fix.      J.R.

General Discussion / Re: CRG is Back!
« on: October 18, 2005, 06:37:49 AM »
Great look!  I was in withdrawal too till I figured out what was going on.  Have spent the last week figuring out the Team Camaro site and how to navigate it.  Haven't spent much time there though. Too much late model stuff.  l'm a 1st gen guy.

Bought my '69 in '88 and seems like I've been working on it and learning from this site forever. When did CRG get started?

Thanks for all the work!    J.R.
