General Discussion / XT wheel backspacing
« on: January 06, 2007, 05:34:43 AM »
Been looking at  14x7 xt repop wheels and it list the backspacing a 4 1/4".   Is that the same as the original?   I had in my mind the the original backspacing was closer to  3 1/2 or 3 3/4.     Thanks, Jim

General Discussion / Re: Rear Spoiler Mounting?
« on: July 31, 2006, 04:02:21 AM »
You might try over at Team Camaro and search for spoiler template.  I recall a post in the last couple of months about the same issue.  I believe that someone had mentioned that one of the major Camaro suppliers have a template that they'll be glad to sell you.   I just eye balled mine and got lucky but mine appears to fit correctly.  You might also try the assembly manual.  Don't have mine handy or I'd check it out for you.      Jim

General Discussion / Re: Tires - how wide to go on my 14x6 rallys?
« on: July 13, 2006, 04:13:47 AM »
I think that  G60's are way to flipping big. Would look really starange , especially on 6" wheels. I did as JohnZ did and went with 215-65's on 15x7 wheels on all 4 corners for that more stock look.  Very close to the stock height also.

Originality / Original grill/bezel color?
« on: July 04, 2006, 05:51:57 AM »
I have Hugger Orange 69 with a black grill and silver headlight bezels.  According to the info in "Exteriors", if I'm reading it correctly, they should both be silver.  The headlight bezels look to be painted silver as they are black inside.  What colors should I have?   Thx, J.R.

I gotta agree that the New Shelby looks great!   The Camaro is just to futuristic.  Especially the front end.  If they do make the Camaro in '09, what are they gonna do for updates to the styling?   It already looks like something out of Star Wars now.   The new Challenger is also a drop dead car.  I've been and out of Camaros and Chevelles for 35 years but would opt for either of those and not the new Camaro.  If GM doesn't give it a more retro look, it'll end up like the new GTO..... in obscurity.      J.R.

Maintenance / Re: Voltage regulator not working properly?
« on: April 12, 2006, 03:53:50 AM »
I too had intermittent problems with my voltage regulator and finally went with with the Wells unit 3-4 years ago. I didn't use the original base, only the top piece but kept the original.  I had seen this topic discussed here and took CRG's advice and got rid of the old coil style regulator.  It's worked flawless ever since. Also bought mine at Autozone.

General Discussion / Re: Vinyl or Not?
« on: March 11, 2006, 06:43:49 AM »
I came close to not putting the vinyl top back on my 69 but am glad that I did now.  I wanted to go Hugger Orange with white stripes but ended up replacing the black vinyl to top to maintain it's originality.  Just wished that I had'nt put that rear spoiler on it.

I've seen them quite frequently on ebay. From singles to complete sets.      You might also google hubcaps.   I know that there a couple of places that specialize just in caps.     Try ehubcaps.com.   I had it in my favorites but haven't been there in a while.      J.R.

I've been dabbling in camaros since I bought mine in '88 and have never seen that color combo.   That's one good looking car.    J.R.

I've gotta agree with dutch...If you've got to go over .30  on a block to clean it up...then try looking for something else.   You'll be money ahead, especially if you looking for something that is going to be used long term.     J.R.

General Discussion / Re: PITMAN ARM INTERCHANGE
« on: January 29, 2006, 05:42:42 AM »
I think that you'll find that the output shaft on the ps unit is larger that the one on the manual steering.  If  you're installing ps on your Camaro,  you'll need a new pitman arm to match the larger output shaft.   Same goes for the rag joint.  The input shaft of the ps unit is larger than the manual as well.  I went with the longer pitman arm.  Really quickens up the steering.      J.R.
