General Discussion / Re: help holley 4053 Z28 carb not idleing right
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:13:48 PM »
I had a similar problem when the engine was new. I put this 302 together buying dated parts. The carb I bought, that looked good, had a problem. One of the idle outlet ports was plugged. It was trying to idle on one side only. Since then the front metering block was replaced. I can not get this big old 780 to idle rich, so I think I need some idle feed restrictor work done by a competant carb rebuilder. Just some food for thought.

By the way #72 front jets would be right for a stock 302 with the 30-30 cam. That is a normal tune for that engine. They produce a surge free cruise speed. They have nothing to do with idling.

Gary, I'm sure there were many different suppliers for these bolts.  For example, the original coil bracket mounting bolts on my '68 Z/28 have a "T" that bisects the head of the bolt.  I believe this "T" identifies the bolt grade, in this case grade 5.  On the other half of the bolt head is an anchor!

I just son't want to end up with Mustang bolts..... ;D

Restoration / Re: any way to restore brake and fuel line finish?

The lines can be rusty inside and still look OK outside, especially brake lines. I would go new. They are very high quality.

Corvettes, trucks, full-size used the 5 quart pan.

Thanks William!

So a Chevelle or Corvette might have used a 5 qt. pan?

Did that engine have a special 5 quart pan or was it a 4 quart pan? I am asking specifically for 1968 but in general as well. Thanks.

Don't know about legality of altering a trim tag, no regs I'm aware of. Fraud however is illegal, and I would expect altering anything to sell it for more than it's actual value would be considered fraud. Just my opinion.

Except in Oklahoma, I believe. It is illegal there. Seems to me fraud is fraud. Changing the TT is not bad by itself unless it is to represent a car as a BB car or Z/82 etc. If it was to change a 6 cyl yellow to a 6 cyl black would not be an issue.

I have a '69. The same as a '68?

Both '68 and '69 used the same coil bracket bolt (3848408), according to the A.I.M.

Do you have an idea what the head marking is? Thanks.

Restoration / Re: Trunk Divider Punchouts
« on: March 05, 2010, 03:45:42 AM »
The two punchouts were originally done on a TSB issued to the dealers due to insufficient air flow into the trunk from the Astro Ventilation system.  I need to go see if that was a 68 or 69 TSB and the date.  Don't know if the factory ever pre punched the holes (these are two rectangular holes, one on either side of center).

Where did the air go once in the trunk?
