Originality / Re: '69 Z/28 spark plug wire stands

Yes, there is a seperate Z/28 bracket. Z/28 had a seperate hose bracket as Kurt said. The hole was there for all brackets. The Z/28 and V8 model brackets were different somehow.

The original support was curved - good photos of it on page 76 and 90 in Jerry's book.

The ones on page 76 are 1967-68 parts, I believe. The ones on page 90 are a straight on shot so it is hard to tell how curved and how they differ from the standard V8 parts. Do you have a good pic of original? Thanks.

The repro suppliers have  different parts . One looks curved and one does not.

What is the difference between the left side V8 and Z/28 plug wire stands?

Restoration / '67 Z/28 restoration

For those interested, here is a story of a '67 Z/28 restoration and how the owner found the original engine to the car.
The latest owner found the engine because of a member at Team Camaro posting about buying a T-bucket with a 302 engine in it. John Mello has seen this car and verified the originality of it and the engine, as the owner tells me. I am posting this for him since he is a friend of mine and he does not own a computer.

Originality / Re: Quality of Repro Harrison Radiators?

I bought mine from HBC several years ago. The "Harrison" looks about the same. It performs very well.

Actually, I have other 02D real tags in my data base with vins in the 9N607 range.

Jerry

My 02D is 9N6131111. The body number is very late at 265042.

The older reproductions were bad. The rears did not have enough curvature to miss the stainless trim and the fronts did not stay on very well. The newer ones are very good. Not sure about deluxe vs standard.

I think 327 Camaros are cool!

Only pace cars and Z/28s had ralley stripes from the factory. If the tranny is original it should have the partial VIN stamped on it. Is it a Muncie?

General Discussion / Re: '68 Z Pitman Arms...

I used a repro part (all that is available now) that was not a Moog part. In less than 4000 miles it has started to get some slop in it. I thought I heard Moog was making them again. If they are I will buy one of them.

Maintenance / Re: 69Z air fuel mixture
« on: June 15, 2010, 03:09:41 AM »
I tuned my carb today on my Z and the passengers side air fuel screw is about 1.75 turns off the seat. Which I understand is within normal range. However, the driver's side air fuel screw is only off the seat about .75 turns. My car with this tuning generated 14 inches of vacuum at about 1200 RPM. After the tune I took the car out and it clearly runs well.

Do I need to be concerned that the driver's side screw is only .75 turns off the seat?

Thanks,

My DZ carb has both screws out at least 1.5 turns or more. I can not get a rich smell at idle. I think I need Eric to adjust the idle feed restrictors in the replacement metering block in my carb.

Maintenance / Re: Spark Knock
« on: June 15, 2010, 03:05:35 AM »
My 69Z is experiencing slight spark knock under aggressive aceleration. I am burning 93 octane, my air/fuel mixture on the carb is dialed in, my timing is 10* at 900 RPM. The motor was rebuilt when I bought the car so I don't know a lot about it. I have recognized that the car seems to run with limited to no SK with the breather assembly off. Maybe just a coincidence but this did happen. Also, I have noticed at times when I get 93 octane as some stations the fuel quality will vary. If I put 100 octane in it runs great. Just wanted to see if anyone else is expericing anything similar. Eric Jackson at Vintage Muscle Car parts rebuilt the Carb.

Thanks,

What cam? A DZ at 11:1 with 30-30 cam replacement (not a new "modern fast ramp cam) should run with aggressive timing on 93 easy.
