The 140 mph speedometer is an add-on. Only COPO sports car conversion got that. ;)

The skirts were" knurled". Little bumps formed into the poiston. Your engine has 169K miles with those pistons?

Restoration / Re: 69 Z28 engine dates
« on: April 22, 2006, 09:45:49 PM »
clarkedog, I too have a non-matching DZ in my X33. If you can find a correct date you will be very lucky due to the lack of them around. I would concentrate more on the quality of what you can find. Even a date correct block will have a non-matching partial vin. Just my $.02.

To go along with what William said, my 02D has an early march differential.

In the RPO lst on this website, Z21 lists "bright belt moldings". What is the belt molding? Also doesn't Z21 include the chrome gills and chrome around the headlamp bezel?

Try Heartbeat City. He has a ton of water pumps with dates all over the place.

Restoration / Re: To Dye or Lacquer?
« on: March 18, 2006, 01:19:44 AM »
I am pretty sure that laquer is for hard plastic, ie the console and dash carrier. The flexible parts need dye. I made the mistake of using laquer on the seat hinge cover and it flaked off even after using adhesion promoter and primer. I had to use dye to make it stick.

Could you get a Z-28 with a flat hood in 1969? Dave

Approximately 90% came with a flat hood. The cowl hood was not ordered with many cars.

Restoration / Re: 69 Z28 rear springs...what is correct?
« on: March 10, 2006, 03:22:52 AM »
The original springs have plastic separators between leafs that fit in stamped square pockets. Most repros have plastic separators that snap into holes in the springs. Heartbeat City has the real springs I hear. Not a plug for them, just what I hear. I just had mine re-arched with new separators. $75. I has been fine for over 1 year now. Nothing like original if you can use them.

My original is black, and still has one of the two wide rubber bands attaching it to the jack column.

John, could you please measure the width of that strap. Thanks.

Don't mean to cut in, but I got my "T" at Kragens Auto Parts. Most auto parts stores should have them.

If originality is important to you, find a used original and have it rebuilt by The Damper Dudes. I did and it is just fine.
