Originality / Re: Rear trunk emblem and spoiler question.
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:58:52 AM »
The factory would have relocated the emblem to a location above the spoiler. You can see where from the underside of the trunk. If it was factory the upper torsion spring is thicker diameter wire. If the dealer added the spoiler then they may have reloctaed the emblem and may have replaced the spring. Check the upper spring. I knew mine was factory because of the overspray.

General Discussion / Re: Body mount bushings.....how hard to replace?
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:53:05 AM »
Easy to replace as long as the bolts come out and the mating nuts and body are not rusted. Just remove the bolts from one side and jack the body under the rocker with a 2x4 and replace. The trick is one side at a time. If the captured nuts are gone it take some surgery to replace them. they are available.

Originality / Re: Tower Clamps
« on: January 05, 2007, 01:49:40 AM »
I researched this topic over at Team Camaro. A couple of posts said 67- mid 68 used spring clamps for the heater hoses and tower clamps for the rest. Mid 68 - 69 used tower clamps for all hoses.  No mention of spring clamps at the water pump/intake for the heater hoses. Do you have an Assembly manual for your car?

Uh, not in the USA. :-[

Thanks for the education. What, did GM have a bunch of old 283's laying around? Did export cars have a CID limit in different countries?

Very interesting article.  I didn't actually know that Chevy Engineers did that much research into the aerodynamica of our F-bodies.  COOL ! ;D

Steve

Remember, it was a racing item for the Trans Am guys. Chevy wanted to kick butt.

That is a unique shape shifter adjuster nut.  Check out page 324 in the 69 AIM. It calls out nut P/N-9791886 for SB, or nut P/N-3955770 for BB’s.  The nut pockets within the contour of the shifter bracket and has pushed up spike or grippers (like course sand paper) to help it bite into the bracket.

Heartbeat City, www.heartbeatcity.com, has very nice reproductions. Item #TRN-1271 for $5.95 is for small blocks.  They are black phosphate but the originals I have seen were more of a silver cad color.  I painted mine with Eastwood's Silver Cad paint that looks very close to the original color.

I have "an" original shifter (not sure if it is the original) in my 69Z that I have questions about.  I will start a new post to cover shifters in more detail.

Sorry, I was refering to the self-locking nut on the 3-4 rod.

I think I found the same post last night in which you quoted, Gary.

I was doing some searching on TC about it since the Z Im finishing now has an NOS 140 cam in it.  Probably no good for regular driving, but has a wicked sound at idle, especially through the Gardner :)

Been following that one. How did you get 800 rpm idle? With full manifold vacuum advance I can not get that low because the vacuum drops and I lose the advance. Any chance of getting a sound clip?

I am changing my repro chambered system for the transverse system. I think it should sound a little crisper.

DEEJAY, are you saying the casting numbers are the heads? The casting numbers should end in 186 for a 1969 302 engine. And are you saying the engine assembly date suffix is CEB? Should be DZ.

Check out p. 158 in the AIM, under Sec. 12 covering Engine Electrical, it calls for clip P/N-3906181.  Rick's 1st Gen offers two different clips: #STR-10 for 67-69's listed as the "correct reproduction", $19.95, and #STR-8 also for 67-69’s listed as a "replacement" for $14.95.  The one listed as "correct reproduction" includes the large round hoop as show in the AIM.  The one I have shown is the "replacement”.

I was not sure what the large hoop was used for?

I also wondered what the large loop's function was. I remember those clips from early 60's Chevies also. I used the correct one.

John....do you know?  Was there certain options, etc. that used the hoop?

You are very right JohnZ. I have never heard NORS before. But I see a vendor selling door switches as NOS on eBay that can be purchased from Delco still today.

Jerry, what is your estimate for HP on a basically stock DZ, 11:1, 30-30 cam, well tuned with headers and transverse muffler?
Happy New Year to all.
