General Discussion / Re: !!!NEED HELP BAD!!! - 1969 Camaro Wiring Gremlins
« on: September 29, 2009, 08:22:17 PM »
David, elec gremlins are the worst. You didnt mention the short ground wire that is on the Neg cable at the battery... it bolts to the fender right adjacent to the battery. Also, if the car had new paint, all the grounds should have a star washer under the terminals so it cuts into the paint to reach the steel surface for a grounding 'touch'. Those star washers have solved alot of issues over the years. Seems like you have the other elec. ends all done up right.  Hopefully others can also comment.

Jody, awesome looking car. Sadly the trim tag info. and VIN will NOT tell you what engine it came from the factory with. All the SS labels, the 396 engine, the black tail panel, all could be added to enhance value or speed. Check the rear frame rail behind the drivers side rear wheel at about 1 o'clock and see if there is a apox. 3x5 inch steel plate welded to the frame with 2 holes in it, for hanging dual exhaust. If its there, the car did come with factory dual exhaust. If its not there, its not a SS396.
Also count your hood spring coils. How many fuel lines coming up to the fuel pump?
Get ALL numbers off the block and post them in here, that will also help the folks to help you figure out what you have. :)

Maintenance / Re: M-21 lube leaking out of the speedo cable

A few more pics of speedo leaking issue. Mine is off TH350 but same problem, leaked down onto my foot while driving on a 2500 mile trip to a car show in Seattle. Chev.dealer replaced the bullet and all the seals and O-rings, dry ever since. :)

Originality / Re: Exhaust hangar bracket

Here is my 69 frame rail showing the 2 pilot holes. I have dual exhaust on it now but it was from the factory without duals. Hence just the pilot holes. This area is where a plate was welded with the 2 threaded nuts in it to hang the dual exhaust from. :) My car is an LM1 with single exhaust. There are LM1's with duals too. It was an option on alot of the V8's.

My axle is original to the car so no rebuilder could have gotten ahold of it.

Just an FYI  My J78  (Oct 7 1968) built 3.08 non posi has the H on the axle as well. My #'s are BL 1009G2 with H under that.
Kurt, does this " H " maybe give you another anomaly to be alert too? Is it build date related maybe? If you track enough of them, maybe the "H" will turn out to mean something down the road.

Restoration / Re: 69 RS Headlamps
« on: November 18, 2008, 04:35:20 PM »
squirt some WD40 in the vac holes to see if it loosens up the rubber boots inside before you toss them out. If you do toss them, the new ones from Ricks work great. :)

Add to your list that 69 camaro convertibles with A/C, have baffels with a curve built into them to go around those shakers.
Coupes in 69 with A/C have straight baffels.
 Another little detail.

Restoration / Re: Wiring harness restoration ???
« on: September 11, 2008, 04:18:35 PM »
I restored my existing wire harness up front when I freshened up the whole front end. I checked all connectors, sanded with brass brush all brass ends, any frayed connections I redid, only takes about an 1" of wire and things still fit. Be carefull of grounds when you reassemble, use star washers under screws and bolts to ensure good ground if you painted rad support or fenders etc. :)

Just so you understand, the crossram is not original from the factory but was dealer installed option. So 'original dealer installed option' crossram would be more correct. :)  Nice car you have.
