General Discussion / Re: Headlights dim

1st guess is replace the regulator with Wels VR715 , less than $10 and original old black cap fits over it... see if that helps, then dig into grounds and alternator. Grounds are most likely part of the problem in these old cars, use a box of star washers under ground strap bolts, that helps alot.

General Discussion / Re: Windshield replacement
« on: April 11, 2010, 04:20:55 PM »
Took a huge rock from a Semi on the interstate in my windshield right in my line of sight, had it replaced by City Auto Glass with the proper date codes etc. and they didnt have to remove anything. Nothing should be in the way of a pro to replace the glass. The wipers are close to the bottom edge of the rubber edging of the glass but not in the way at all. The cowl shouldnt have to come off either.

Romeze is there a welded plate on the rear frame rail behind the drivers side rear wheel, at about 1 o'clock position with 2 holes in it? That "might" be another clue if your car is an SS or not. Also, one fuel line or 2? There are many ways to slowly add up the info. to help you determine what you have. X11 is will not tell you if its SS or not. Sadly.

The 3932388 block is no longer considered rare at all. CRG has compiled more information and its now no longer considered rare. The ...388 block was used extensively in the 69 model year engines and in NON SS cars as well as SS cars. The old data that is in old books and old websites have not updated their information but CRG has.
Quoting CRG here "The 3932388 block is sometimes noted as being 'rare', but it actually was commonly used in mid-69 production. "

Mild Modifications / Re: 69 RS CAMARO
« on: March 05, 2010, 08:28:57 PM »
The 1969 RS package included the headlight washers all the time.  The headlight washers were also a stand alone option on Non-RS 69 Camaros too. It appears that very very few of those were sold. There is a classic car dealer in north Chicago suburbs, who to this day is adamant that some sort of whiskers were also part of that package but nobody will ever change his mind, he is wrong.

General Discussion / Re: Regular or synthetic motor oil?
« on: February 22, 2010, 04:38:14 PM »
Ive had excellent results from using 100% syn, Amsoil in my 69 camaro, 350 LM1. It had been rebuilt with forged pistons, .30 over, balanced etc. The only area thats shows a few drops of oil is the rear main seal, which is common on so many engines. Rather than tear the engine apart for $$$  its no big thing to have a few drops of oil on the ground under my car, and still have the protection of better mileage, cooler running, less friction internally etc. Id take the engine protection, "insurance" of the syn anyday, over some very minor dribbles of oil.
Just my humble opinion :)

It would be nice if all the oil makers would publish their ZDDP content, so as to eliminate all guessing or 'I heard' or 'it used to be'.  Oils are constantly changing with requirements from auto makers and Gov.

But the LM1 was not built that late in January. LM1's were done by the end of Dec. :) sadly

Amsoil publishes their additive levels with more than enough levels of ZZDP for virtually any engine configuration.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: F-Code...not X-Code
« on: December 08, 2009, 10:12:38 PM »
Lots of those LA tags around the various sites with the unique codes as mentioned by the Kurt and Mark. Funny deal is mine just happened to be X164, so some folks think its a mistake to have an X code on an LA built car,... nope. X is 24th day of the month, and my car was the 164th that day to go down the line.
This site and Camaros.net have always known about the LA codes, so they are not exotic at all. Just some folks jump to conclusions before they research it. Enjoy the LA car, its around 3 weeks newer than mine.
