My LOS Oct 68 LM1 has partial VIN by the oil filter, so it is safe to say, look at both areas. VIN's were being moved around alot back then depending on if it was built in NOR or LOS (Van Nuys) .

 My partial VIN is stamped near the oil filter too but its so faint in the rough casting area that its not readable until the
engine is someday pulled out. The current owner of my RS will be messing with a possible new engine, LS1 maybe, and then he will be able to take pics of the partial VIN when it comes out.

I was asking about the block casting number.... not the date... my block was 3932388  so Im curious what that block casting number is too.  :)

That car was built 146 cars after mine... here is my TT for comparison. I only have 2 thoughts about that car... 1st is the rubber gasket on the air cleaner is inside out, a common mistake. 2nd... why have they not given the block casting # info.?
 My VIN was L 505849

Or 2 grades of Z-Rod by AMSOIL  10w-30 or 20w-50 are great oils too.

 I honestly never gave much attention to the wiper motor setup at all. So I cant offer any more info. on that. It appears to be the original unit but as you well know, nothing is 100% on these old cars but the dirt, overspray etc. all appeared similar all around the firewall.
 If it makes any difference, which I doubt, its an LM1 car too. 350/255, single exhaust,  several options like am/fm flip face radio with single speaker in dash, fold down rear seat, power front disc brakes, a/c , vinyl top. Kurt, Mark and several others know my old car, current owner is looking to put in an LS1 over the winter. :)

 Mine is 10D build LOS car, its an RS with 5045608 Stamped number, no sticker. RS solenoid is dated 10-28-68

My old 69 LM1 had the vin by the oil filter but it was so faint I could never snap a pic of it, new owner might be doing that this winter when he takes it out.  Its a 10d (x164)  LOS built car.  Original RS with 350 Qjet, TH350 tranny and 12 bolt rear end, fold down rear seat, pwr front disc brakes, vinyl top.

If someone said it already I missed it..but easy way to check for 'possible' SS is behind the driver's side rear wheel, along the frame rail at about 1 o'clock see if there are 2 holes OR a steel plate apox. 3x5" welded onto the frame rail there with 2 holes in it. If its just 2 holes drilled thru the frame, its NOT an SS.  If that plate is there, it 'MIGHT' be an  SS.  The plate indicates dual exhaust from the factory which SS had. BUT any V8 could be ordered with dual exhaust. Its just another part of your puzzle to add to. :)

I have no way of knowing if the vinyl was the 'original' vinyl on my car but it came from factory with the blue vinyl per the trim tag. My car was originaly purchased in So. Calif and then it went to Texas, so Im guessing it could have been stored inside alot but the area at the bottom of the rear glass above the trunk was pretty bad. There were no 'repair spots' on the metal roofing at all. The vinyl peeled off in one piece but alot of rust from that area near the trunk stuck to the underside of the vinyl when it came off. Im sure he will see more than he is thinking...we always do  :)

When you have a few minutes feel free to glance at the photos I took of my vinyl top before and after. It was very rusted out along the bottom edge with alot of bubbles under the vinyl. Good luck. I loved the look of the vinyl top cars.

IF its an SS it will have a 3"x5" welded steel plate behind the driver's side rear wheel, on the frame rail and it will have 2holes in it for dual exhaust hanger... only the dual exhaust coupes had this plate there. Very rarely someone has tried to fake that plate but if its original (post pics of it) the car came from the factory with dual exhaust. Keep in mind you could order dual exhaust on any V8 engine too, not just SS or Z28.
 If its true RS there should be a 2nd solenoid on top of the wiper motor and hoses going up to headlight squirters above each headlight. There should be a large black vacuum container on drivers side inner fender and hoses to the headlight doors, plus hoses up to the headlight switch. The rear back up light holes should be stamped out cleanly, not cut with a torch.
 Thats a few things you can find for yourself or have current owner check out for you.
