Originality / Re: 69 Z/28 fuel line routing

The rubber line just makes a 180 degree loop from the hard line to the fuel pump, not mounted to the subframe and just 2 spring hose clamps. I can take a picture if you really need one.

If you look at the bid history, did sassygrass320 bid himself up to $2,500?

General Discussion / Re: Leaf Spring Paint
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:20:41 AM »
During the restoration of my 28K Z/28, I took the leaves out and had the cleanest one scanned at my local auto paint supply house. They used the same scanner that you would use on the paint of the car to match a custom color for repair. They mixed a small amount up and with a brush test, it was spot on. I had a batch mixed up in spray cans and used that. They look great but I have not driven the car yet to see how it will hold up. My thought is if the paint rubs off at the contact points they will rust, and then look just like they originally did. Below is a picture of the original spring used for the scan. I think I have a couple of spray cans left over.

James,

My cars upper stamped VIN looks like the clear was poured on it, really thick and no brush marks.

Would the mesh be the holes for the rear speakers if equiped?

Restoration / Re: replacement 302 block
« on: February 03, 2010, 11:26:53 PM »
I have followed posts like this, here and on other sites for a long time. The question was, if the block date code lines up and the numbers were stamped on after a deck job is the engine numbers matching? In my opinion, yes they “match” what was originally in the car. Is it the “Born With” or the “Original” engine, NO!

Today some of the restamps are darn near impossible to tell from originals, others not so much… I think the issue most people have is falsely representing as original something that is known not to be for a higher profit during a sale. With some of the litigation that has recently taken place around the authenticity of some high end cars I think it be in a sellers best interest not to misrepresent a vehicle.

What if someone was almost lucky enough to win the lottery and found a block that was built the same day as the one needed for their car. It’s not a “restamp” and it’s not “original”.

General Discussion / Re: 69 FACTORY ROTORS
« on: December 04, 2009, 12:09:38 AM »
I have both the original rotors on my car, only one has the holes drilled to balance the rotor. I am sure there was a balance spec for the rotors when new, if they were within tolerance no additional machining was needed. Attached is a picture of the paint mark that was only on the rotor without the holes.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: My Camaro's Birthday

Thanks Kurt. From the database when do you think the body build might have started?

The selling Dealer was Taylor Chevrolet in Rochester, they have been out of business for quite a while. I have found the original owner and asked a lot of questions about the car. I did not ask, but I don’t think he ordered the car. I hope to have a reunion with him next summer.

Decoding/Numbers / My Camaro's Birthday
« on: November 30, 2009, 12:57:11 AM »
I‘m looking for some help to see if I can determine my Camaro's Birthday.  CRG has all my numbers, but I am going to leave off the last digits here. 1969 Z/28, build week is 05A, body # is 32247X, and VIN is N64195X. I have the dealer invoice dated 5-15-69 so it didn’t sit around long.  I would like to know best guess when the body build started and about when it might have rolled off the end of the line. Thanks.

Mr. Gasket makes a replacement screw in stud that you don't have to mill down the bosses to install. Pull out the press in studs, tap the hole, and install with some J-B Weld. You get the peace of mind of the screw in stud with the original look. http://www.jegs.com/i/Mr-Gasket/720/1076/10002/-1

I don't think anyone's are cheap any more. ebay has some now and then, for some reason there seems to be more early heads for sale than mid year. Do your home work and have fun searching.

Mark,

Give Camaro Specialties a call. http://www.camaros.com/ I was there a couple of weeks ago and Bob had quite a few 186 casting number heads with late 68 casting dates lined up in the show room.

I went through the same thing last Fall. I found the correct Parts at SEMA last year. Look on page three of the link.

I don't remember what part number I ordered, just give them a call. The parts are spot on to the originals. I have no clue why these would not be in the spring rebuild kits for a 1st gen.

How about this from the AMK catalog? Maybe a little JB Weld and then cut the 1/4 20 side to the proper length for the front or back, 1" and 1/2".
