Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 69 camaro hood insulation question

The reproduction molded pad (REM) has some issues, but is far better than the alternative. All the manufacturer needs to do is make a few minor modifications and it would be much better. In the mean time I trim a little here and there and get it to fit. Regarding the clips, I simply use a file on each clip and increase the locking lip. I was tired of finding them on the garage floor and a little filing did the trick. I also place a thin plastic on the core support braces because they get scratched from the abrasive insulation as well.

I really appreciate this forum. I learn something new everytime, and then sometimes it adds to the confusion. Therefore, at this time there is no evidence to support that a Dover white 69 Z28 should have blacked out rocker panels? Your question was answered above. Cars with Z21 or Z22 option would have the body sills blacked out. Your Z28 is coded X33 therefore it would definitely have the Z21 (style Trim) and if it is a rallysport would also have Z22. So your car would have blacked out sills.

Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Vintage Camaro Certification @ Camaro Nationals
|
on: January 16, 2008, 12:43:22 PM

Vintage Camaro Cerification is a judging program whose sole purpose is to recognize, provide status and promote unrestored Camaros. We believe it is the only program that focuses on and documents unrestored Camaros. It is truly amazing the jewels of information that can be learned from these benchmark cars and the provenance your car earns through our program. Certifications are held annually at the Camaro Nationals @ Carlisle sponsored by American Camaro Association and held in conjunction with the All GM Nationals. We offer four levels of certification, based on the originality of the Camaro. Over the last eight years we were fortunate enough to certify several outstanding cars, a 1970 Dick Harrell 454 Conversion (Steve Sandlin), 19K mile 69 Yenko(Don Stowers), 14K mile 69 RS/SS L78(Jeff Boone), 9k mile 70.5 RS/Z28(Ben Arena) and a 12Kmile RS/SS L48(Rick George), Original owner 18K mile 67 RS/SS L35 and a host of other amazingly original and unrestored cars. This coming year we still have space available. We presently certify 1967 to 1973 Camaros. If you are interested and think your car qualifies, or want to know more about our program email me at sshauger@optonline.net and I will send you our Rules and Guidelines packet or call 631-514-9765... Click on the attachment to find out more details. If you are into Camaros this is the show, June 20, 21 & 22. Steve Shauger Vintage Camaro

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: 67 AM/FM and rear antenna

Just want to correct my above post. 1967 am/fm were part# 986824 and 68 were 7303241. If the tags are missing the easiest way to tell is 1967 radios have no am/fm on the lens near the switch and 1968 does have am/fm on the lens by the slide switch.

I believe on a 67 there are dashes between the numbers. For instance on FM dial 102 -104 - 106 and 68 just had 102 104 106. Its been a while since i investigated this but there are differences between the dial script. Hopefully someone can confirm....

Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: Gear reduction unit

And I think that with an 9 tooth drive gear, the car doesn't neet the adapter at all (like John's car).
That would be my guess as well. I don't have any data on 9 tooth drive gears utilizing a reducer. Each transmissions has a part# tag that designated its build configuration. If 9 tooth drive gear transmissions did not need adapter/reducer in high numerical gear applications then why wouldn't they install transmissions configured as such based on the part# tag. Assuming that the pn tag/brass tag in fact provided a configuration/BOM for the trans.

The key is transmission drive gear teeth. If your transmission has a 8 tooth drive gear the following should work for 4.10 Rear Axle, F70-14 Tires, 8 tooth Drive Gear (P/N 3924098), 20 tooth Driven Gear (P/N 3860343), Adapter P/N 6476736. This is good for 3 or 4 speed transmission.

As been mentioned the Gardner system is a near perfect replication of the original and the way to go if your planning to have the car judged. If you are not necessarily into original and want more of a performance system the American Thunder by Flowmaster gives you a good value. The flowmaster system is not close to original, although the tail pipes give you an original type look.
