General Discussion / 1969 Z28 Coils Springs
« on: February 01, 2024, 03:07:49 AM »
I want to replace the coil springs in my orange/white stripe Z I recently picked up, because it sits too high. I have installed Moog 6308 in my other orange Z and for me it sits perfect. The rub is they are discontinued. From my research D&R sells pn k00091-z which is designed for a 69 Z28 and looks to match the original specs. Also available from Classic Industries are Elgin pn CS6308 which also closely matches the Moog original specs. My question is has anyone installed either and do you like the height? If you have pics that would be great. Any other spring suggestion would be appreciated!

Thanks...

General Discussion / Vintage Certification @ Camaro Nationals 2024
« on: December 01, 2023, 09:23:11 PM »
Vintage Certification™ is again proud and excited to be a part of the Camaro Nationals 2024. 2024 marks our 25th year certifying cars which began at the Camaro Nationals in 1999. By now everyone should know this is a must attend event if you own or are looking for anything Camaro. Come Join Us and have your car Vintage Certified at Camaro National 2024 July 19,&120 in Morgantown, PA.

Vintage Certification™ is a judging program whose sole purpose is to recognize, provide status, provenance, and promote un-restored (survivor) vehicles. We believe it is the only program that focuses on documenting and benchmarking these cars. Our Camaro Certification team consists of Brett Merryman,  Lloyd Costley, John Pollock, Bob Harris & Steve Shauger. Each  team member possesses over 30 years' experience as restorers, collectors, historians and judges in the hobby. Typically, we spend 3-4hrs examining in detail every segment of your car including the underbody on a lift. To learn more about Vintage Certification visit our website at www.vintagecertification.com. This is the perfect venue to have your vehicle certified. You will be among and exclusive group of enthusiasts who participate in this exciting event.

We understand not every original car is 100% untouched, and we offer five levels of certification, based on the originality of the Vehicle.
Vintage Certifications™ five divisions:

Vintage Time Capsule - Vehicles that are 95+% unrestored in all reference areas
Vintage Legend - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in all reference areas.
Vintage Heritage - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in five reference areas.
Vintage Legacy - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in four reference areas
Vintage Reference - Vehicles that are 85+% unrestored in three reference area.

Reference Areas: Certification consists of two areas of consideration, Originality and Preservation. Reference areas are as follows:

• Engine Compartment Area
• Exterior Body
• Interior Body
• Underbody
• Trunk (except Corvette)

We only accept 4 entries for this event, and last year Vintage Certification was filled by March. We are now accepting applications for Camaro Nationals 2024. We have limited certification slots available and suggest you apply early before they are filled. If you are interested or have questions call or visit our website at: www.vintagecertification.com for more info such as, rules and guidelines and downloadable application. Restoration / Re: 1969 Rally Sport Door Blackout
« on: June 09, 2023, 12:52:47 AM »
I'm not sure how I missed this thread. I've attached two pics of a survivor I used to own. The upper and lower screws areas are blacked out. Both doors are identical. The doors were painted body color and then clearly blacked out. I have also seen this on an orange RS/SS L48. Attached pics are a 9B of 68 Nor built car and will look for the Nor 4C HO car pics. Thank Charley for taking the pics for me!

I'd like to see pics of the tag from a few years ago if any are available. I don't see a problem with this tag. Yes they are reproducing much better tags now....

General Discussion / Re: MCACN
« on: November 30, 2019, 08:42:46 PM »
Niblet: MCACN is inclusive of all brands, and includes barn finds to concours restorations. No one has their wealth/assets listed on their forehead. Opinions should be formed by firsthand experience not a few photos. The show offers a wealth of information, in fact the silver JL8 Z28 pictured in this thread has components and a literature display never seen by most. Car people are car people, and everyone at the show was willing to help/share information from historians, restorers and enthusiast a like. Your initial post was an offensive blanket statement, which I thought after reflecting you might have had second thoughts about posting. Your second post however was more of the same....

Danny although no one recognized your CRG shirt, your 68 Z28 caught a lot of attention at MCACN a few years back. Wishing you a speedy recovery and a happy and healthy 2020.

Looking forward to another great 2020 MCACN show. Always great catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.

General Discussion / Bud Scolastico RIP
« on: March 07, 2019, 08:59:15 PM »
The word Camaro as defined by Chevrolet translated to “friend, pal, or comrade.” Truer words have never been spoken because we lost a true Camaro friend to the Camaro community Bud Scolastico, who battled a long illness. For those of you who never heard of him or didn’t know his contribution, he was the driving force behind the Camaro Nationals. His tireless efforts built the show into what it has become. RIP my friend…….

Originality / Re: 1967 L78 Fan/Clutch
« on: December 11, 2018, 02:27:51 AM »
Bryon absolutely but 20 plus years ago there was skeptism. I remember in Colvin by the #'s book stated "possible some late 67 production cars could have received this block, but highly unlikely and unverified. The same could be said for the fan/clutch assembly that are in some late production L78's. The interesting thing is both L78's I reference have 456 gears!!! Yes 323 bocks were in production June of 67.... my block was cast F 18 7

I just spoke to the original owner of the Butternut Yellow L78, built the same week 7B, and he confirmed that he has the 5 rivet fan and Eaton clutch like mine, and that's how it was delivered new. Due to the limited space he could not get date information of the components. My understanding is this may have only occurred very late June & July. two other unique features our cars also came with 323 blocks which use in 67 was unverified back in 1996 when I purchased, and 840 head with the temp sender boss not drilled & tapped.

Originality / Re: fuel hose
« on: December 09, 2018, 06:41:14 PM »
My 9B of 68 L34 survivor had identical 5/16 hose that James pictured with GM and box. I've attached a 3/8 hose from a 4C Z28 survivor. I don't see a logo and have only wiped with WD 40.

Originality / 1967 L78 Fan/Clutch
« on: December 08, 2018, 10:06:00 PM »
I just want to share some information regarding two 7B 67 L78 Camaros. Conventional wisdom has it that L78's received only the schwitzer clutch and fan 3871276 with large diameter mount. My car came with the 912239 fan (note 5 rivet per blade) dated F7 (June 67) and Eaton clutch date E29 H (May 29th 1967). I know of another survivor built same week configured identical. If anyone else has any example please post and Kurt consider updating the cooling report.

Without a doubt Chicks car should be featured. I was just volunteering to submit a write up on my car. I haven't even put together anything on the car my site, in members rides :).

General Discussion / Re: Tachometers
« on: May 24, 2018, 03:03:44 AM »
I would expect the November of 69 built car to have the 6500 redline tach... There have been a few 6000 red 7000 high tachs found in July August September of 69 built cars if I am not mistaken.

James I have seen a few, and in fact my orange z (9A of 69 ) has a 600-7000 tach and is dated for the car.

On a somewhat related topic, were there any internal changes to the 302 when they changed from the 6-8 to 6.5-8 tach?  I'm thinking screw in studs and guideplates?  Did the 302 ever have screw in studs and guideplates?  I seem to read differing statements on this.

No and no.
