General Discussion / Jefferson County Spring Car and Swap Meet
« on: April 30, 2007, 12:17:02 AM »
My wife and I just returned from the Jefferson County car and swap meet held in Jefferson, Wisconsin. It was a beautiful day. A lot of cars for sale of all types. Only saw 3-4 First Gen Camaros that were listed as original that appeared to be such. The biggest disappointment was the swap meet, as some stated at shows they have gone to, it is harder and harder to find parts for these cars. We did not find anything in regards to transmissions, or rear ends for any first gen cars! And parts that were available were really priced high. I hope it gets better during the course of the year.

Decoding/Numbers / 350 piston part number
« on: March 20, 2007, 04:31:41 PM »
In 67-68 the 350 I believe only came with one piston part number because it was rated at 295 hp. What was that part number? Was it a flat head or domed piston? In 1969 that changed. There were about 6 different horsepower ratings for the 350. What were the part numbers for the 300hp and the 350hp 350engine. Were both of these domed pistons?

Mild Modifications / rebuilding engine
« on: March 19, 2007, 10:21:51 AM »
Just found out that I have a bearing going bad on my 350. :( So I am going to have the engine rebuilt. Need opinions here, I want to put in a different cam, but keep as much as possible of everything else stock. It was suggested, by the Company rebuilding the engine that since I don't want to change to much of anything else on the engine that a 350/350hp cam would probably be the best way to go. Rebuild the heads with new springs , seals to handle the unleaded fuel etc. etc.  Any ideas or suggestion? Want to keep it a cruiser and not a bruiser!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 350 4 barrel, headers. Would it be a good idea to change the carb or just rebuilt that also? Q-Jet on it now. I was going to rebuild next year but after running some tests and checking oil pressures cold and hot have to do it a year early.

Decoding/Numbers / decoding rear gear numbers
« on: March 14, 2007, 09:59:07 PM »
OK CRG once again I need help.
In a previous thread I ask for help in trying to determine my rearend gearing because my speedo was off by 10mph on the high side 50 was actually 60, 30 is actually 40.  It is suppose to be based on the numbers BP0403G2 a 2:73 or 3:08 built April 3rd in Detroit on the 2nd shift. I just had the car on a hoist and attempted to do it the old fashion way, mark my rear tire, put it in neutral ,marked the drive shaft and turned the tire one revolution and counted the turns on the drive shaft. Three times I did it and the shaft turned only 1 and 1/2 times!!!! We pulled the rear cover off the rear housing and I got these numbers off the ring gear, not sure this helps any, 1GM 3910823  underneath this is 15 11 ( or 41 ) 2 67. Is the 3910823 just the part number for the gear or what? Based on the old fashion turning I have a 1:1:50 rear gear!!!!!!!!!! Is this possible??
Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maintenance / cyclinder pressure
« on: March 04, 2007, 11:51:52 PM »
Can someone tell me what is considered good cylinder pressure for a 40 year old 350 v8?    200 p.s.i. 185 p.s.i.??? I looked through my Chassis service manual for 1967 and it shows how to test but doesn't say what the cylinders should be, unless I am looking in the wrong place, what is considered good pressure?  If I remember correctly all eight cylinders should be within 10 percent of each other. Is that correct? For that matter, what was the pressure for a new 350 back in 67?

Could someone tell me the order in which the color of the wires coming out of the harness connector are  ?Then mayber I can figure out if I have a bad circuit board or if I have something grounded or hooked up wrong from the harness. All other lights and gauges work properly with the new harness.

« on: February 23, 2007, 02:57:58 PM »
Help!!!!!!!!

I just replaced the underdash harness in my 67 Camaro and now I can not get the in dash tachometer to work.

What side of the coil does the yellow and black wires that are together and the single black wire go on. Does the two go to the positive side or to the negative side? Does anyone have diagram for the coil wiring? Also which vacumn port on the carb goes to the Distributor Advance?

Originality / 67 low fuel light?
« on: January 29, 2007, 08:07:58 PM »

???I could not find a RPO code in 67 for a low fuel warning light. Was this option available in 67?  If so, where would it appear? On the dash or in the gauge package? Was it just a warning light or did it say Low Fuel? Reason I ask, I am in the process of installing a new underdash harness in my 67 Camaro. I have the gauge package on the floor console and it is a automatic. There is a connection I can't find where its goes from the harness. I have all the dash hooked up, the glove box light, ash tray light , cigarette lighter etc etc. Or is this there in case some one has it and instead of having to buy a special harness it is included in the harness.? I bought the harness through Rick's First Gen. Pretty simple to install and really cleans up the underdash.
