Decoding/Numbers / Re: X33 Cowl Tag - Original or Reproduction
« on: May 15, 2020, 09:19:00 PM »
So the stripes would be white?  I haven't looked through the recommended combinations in quite a while...  But after referring to the CRG chart for '69 & no vinyl top, it lists "59  Frost Green       B "  for black stripes as standard combination.  Am I missing something?

I assume the X33 car in this thread would have black stripes to coordinate with 711 interior.  IMO when Frost Green is done right, it is a sharp color.  BTW is this car RS or Style Trim optioned?  Not sure if the OP alias is tied directly to the car or not, lol.

I think "B 7" would be non-style trim Z28 with blue interior.  "B 1" would be style trim with blue interior which could be a standard car or an SS 350.  If the car does not have factory style trim, it would probably be "B 7".  Hope that makes sense.  I'm sure others will concur or offer their opinions.  Many knowledgeable folks on this site, so it will be interesting to see what replies come in.

I nearly jumped out of my seat when I saw the 560_ _ _ VIN.  Thought I'd hit the jackpot until I zoomed in and re-read that last 3 digits.(yes, I'm a seasoned citizen)  That's within 175 units of my car and I have been looking for the matching trans for 15 years with no luck.

Soda blasting can distort very thin metal and likely cowl tags as well. My two cents.

My two cents:  I would have preferred a carryover C7 to be retained as an entry level model for a few years to overlap with the mid engine C8.  However that ship has sailed.  As with any new ground-up platform, there are bound to be teething issues.  And the mid engine C8 will likely be no exception.   The C8 is entering a super car marketing and racing arena where Ferrari, Lamborghini et al have battled for years and have their loyal following.  To draw interested parties away from those marques, the C8 must be brilliant right out of the gate.  Anything less could be a heavy blow to the ultimate success of the platform.

Originality / Re: Mystery Z28(?) Oil Pan
« on: January 14, 2019, 04:23:36 PM »
From everything I have been able to gather from online, friends and this forum, this is indeed a 75-79 L82 production pan.  Thanks to all who responded.  Much appreciated.

Could this be a production '70's 2nd gen Z28/LT1 pan or an early service pan?  It does have a date code(?) stamped on the bottom surface near the front seal area which is visible in the photos.  This one has me stumped.

Originality / Mystery Z28(?) Oil Pan
« on: January 13, 2019, 12:17:54 AM »
I found an oil pan that I cannot positively identify.  It is identical to my '69 Z pan with the 2 spot welded corner tabs(no outside dimples) and middle baffle with 2 spot welds. Side rails for the windage tray are just like the '69 pan.  Ski jump is more pronounced than the '69 but has no middle bump at the front side of the sump kickup like the service pan.  Side die draw marks and dimples are like the '69 pan.  The front seal looks to be just shy of 2 1/2 inches which would be like the later service pans.  Will try to attach pics for reference.
Any help is appreciated.

"Like the factory removed all the tape from every car......."
My thoughts exactly.
The car is obviously the pinnacle of Camaro restoration.  Impressive, indeed.

I think that grille should be silver as with a standard Camaro.  At least that is the color scheme on the 69's.

"I'd leave the shifter."
I'll second that.  I had a car in high school with an original Muncie shifter.  It was notorious for hanging up between gears when pushing the car hard.  A new competition plus from the local Ramchargers speed shop cured the problem.

"Do you guys feel better now? I realize it wasn't the cars owner that was the OP but my God is it any wonder so many people are just lurkers on car websites and don't want to post anything?"
I could not agree more.
I happen to have an old war horse without its original 302 and 4 speed. It was a drag car that was thrashed heavily with a 427 and a THM400.  When I was a kid, a big block was a COMMON transplant into a Z28 to give it more fire power to match the looks on the street or strip.  I don't represent my car as numbers matching etc. and would never consider it.  It IS a legit Z28 by birth.  Do I enjoy it less because it doesn't have the 302 under the hood?  Not a bit.  And, I have no issues with folks who put in the work and have the luck to get their cars to the point where they are perfectly representing what was driven off the line at Norwood.  But disparaging fellow enthusiasts who do not have the same ability for whatever reason is not my modus operandi.  And that is the main reason I will never join a club dedicated to a particular model.  I ran into this same mentality with my Vette at an NCRS event and that soured me forever.
So to all the guys with cars that have the pedigree and not the components:  Ignore the criticism, enjoy your car and know there are plenty of other car guys out there that are doing the same thing...
Let the flaming begin.

Good information from all and very much appreciated.  I will have my brother set things up for 210lbs and that should be pretty darned close.
BTW - 169INDY - Nice axle cradle/dolly.  I would bet that some folks on this forum wouldn't mind buying one from you if available.
