« on: August 27, 2018, 06:25:17 PM »
Sort of 'off topic' but sort of not..  What really does a bypass fitting do other than bypass coolant directly to the intake and avoid the heater core hoses and circuit?
Do they really serve great and needed purpose(s) for engines and if so why were they not installed on all engines and not just the HiPerf versions like the Z's and L78's? Was there something to do with the higher rpm's that these engines were capable of that make their installation a necessity verses regular lower rpm versions.. there should be some logical reason I'm not aware of?
I do know GM made many other good performance engines that rev'd up well that didn't seem to need such an arrangement so..?

Usually don't jump in on these, but yea, I agree. Pad stamp does look odd. MO stamp looks nothing like
mine.

Stamped 2 days prior to mine - and it does look like it has a different font compared to mine as well on some of the characters both alpha and numeric..  I didn't see a casting date for the block mentioned anywhere - did I miss it?

If it were my car I would keep it - but saying that.. it sounds pretty large - so I would get a copy made of it and get it somewhat reduced in size and then have it remade to a magnetic sticker as others here have suggested, so it could be added or removed at will.
You could consider getting a couple of them in various sizes done as well to suit your mood so it could be more or less as conspicuous when applied as you want, yet still be as visible depending on the reduced size of your choice, yet as removable and reusable as possible while still looking very authentic.
I'm sure there wouldn't be anyone who would or could recall the exact size of any original version anyway, nor few that could tell that a magnetic version wasn't actually the real one either as they can be quite thinly made!

Do you have a copy of Jerry's 'Definitive' book?

I have one of the 4 02E cars listed above. 2 had 302 emblems & the other 2 had Z/28 emblems. Maybe it had something to do with completion date. Mine was finished 3/13/1968.....Joe

Mine (02D) had 302 markers in old pictures I was given, prior to a later owner changing them to the Z 2/8 versions - guess for more recognition..

Thanks Ed - maybe not as much of a 'mutt' as I thought.. just an ordinary Plain Jane instead!

Not to Hijack this thread - but still regarding pedal bright work... I have an early '68 Z 2/8 (02D) and it has the base interior with no external wheel or rain gutter trim from new - basically a very low optioned version..
Can anyone tell me why I see some sort of similar models often pictured with the bright trim on the pedals when mine doesn't.. or should it have it and maybe it was taken off at some point?
No console, woodgrain trim, grab handle, or tach - just a radio, and the only light inside is the dome light..
I realize this trim can and could've been added on at some point to those cars I've seen - but I don't recall many if any at all, that haven't had it come to think of it..
It also has what I think is considered a deluxe smooth rimmed steering wheel with the brushed bright work spokes..
Care to elaborate if this interior is a 'mutt' or the way it should be?
Thanks- Randy

My Z'd has the same KD1 smog exemption noted in the G M Vintage Services documentation that I have - but again it is a '68 model.
Anyone know if this KD1 RPO was carried over to cars delivered into Canada into the '69 model year at all?

Chick - on the Yenko Supercar registry site you may want to check out a thread that Charlie Lillard started (68 Dana Z2/8) and go down to post #9 where he describes the distributor - you'll certainly love his comment fpr your '266 quest!
