z28z11, is your use of bronze bushings to make the connecting rods full floating?

I like what you say. I already planned to use valve guide inserts of some type. Some type of umbrella seals for the valves. Probably a new set of swirl polished stainless steel valves for intake and exhaust. If possible no valve seat inserts. Heads already have screw in studs (previous owner). So, I may opt for push rod guides.
But, for sure want to do it right the first time.

I prefer not to have the stems cut for oil control. But, I want the head rebuild to be done properly using acceptable standards. I don't want to go cheap on this. Don't want to go through the whole process and then have oil burning after some time. Heads are numbers matching correctly dated, don't want to make them unusable as well.

Restoration / Rebuilding original cylinder heads 1969 z28

I'm in the process of having my original cylinder heads rebuilt.  Machine shop indicated that he would use umbrella type of valve seals on intake valves with the "O" ring seals too, and just the "O" ring seal for the exhaust. He will have to modify the head for the umbrella seal. There have been comments on CRG that if possible do not use pressed in valve seats as well as to have cast iron valve stem guides installed.

Is there a thread or information as to what the best practices should be used to have the original number matching cylinder heads rebuilt?

So, would "distinctive" be just as good as pui, oer, or legendary for the fit. I only looked at the "Distinctive" brand, it looked okay to me, don't know about the fit.

If anyone has a comment on who to avoid, I would appreciate it.

And I do realize that which ever one I purchase its an improvement with what I have.

thanks again.

Went to the local restoration re-seller. Compared "Distinctive" front door panels to my originals. The differences I noticed was that the door lock knob ferrule on the "Distinctive" door panel was larger than the original. I also noticed that the door panel material was one piece on the "Distinctive" brand. On my original door panels, it appears that the chrome horizontal trim towards the top of the panel assists in hiding the seam created by GM using two pieces of trim material on the door panels.

Do any of the other manufacturers (PUI, Legandary, Al Knoch, ...) use two pieces of material on their door panels. See pics.

Originality / Cooling fan - 3937779
« on: March 10, 2016, 10:18:08 PM »
Wanted to get the correct cooling fan for my early produced Z (Oct 1968). According to CRG forum, the correct fan blade should be 3937779. According to the ncrs group, Early 69 Z28's used fan # 3937779 made by Schwitzer and fan # 3947838 made by Hayes-Albion sometimes stamped "84" (both 2" pitch).

So, can I use the 3937779 or 3947838 fan ?

Thank you

I have decided to move forward and install the chambered exhaust system on my early produced Z (Oct 68).

After reviewing many "youtube" videos of Z28's with the chambered exhaust system and speaking with Eric gardner from gardner exhaust, I feel its the correct decision.

I now can distinguish the chambered sound from a deep tone sound. Yes, its louder and more crackley, but, its what my Z came with.

That is correct, edge binding just at rear of front carpet. I was thinking of ordering the front carpet through Classic Industries. I can get the front carpet with the jute backing attached to the carpet and get the sound deadener separately. That is how my front carpet is configured. Sound deadener still on floor boards, except passenger side. I may have removed that for some reason.

Not sure if I should get the Mass backing option if I plan to use carpet with Jute backing and sound deadener.

firstgenaddict, on your recent youtube link. The sound of that chambered exhaust sound like that "Z" is ready for business. Mean and loud.
