I would look for a good used on, plenty out there, when installed correctly they are very tight, hammer and dolly as needed. Same tabs as the sppedo clips.

Restoration / Re: Door to Rocker alignment. End of adjustment.

Door gaps were crap as built, in the resto world it is all about getting the car to look better. I have, as well as others, even added material to doors in the way of round rod, and grind to adjust gaps to get the desired results.

On more than one car I have relieved the metal on the bolt holes on the pillar and even went up a drill size or two on the hinges. Wont hurt a thing.

Restoration / Rocker panel repair
« on: January 29, 2016, 02:03:43 PM »
Anyone use a outer rocker panel skin ? Some I have looked at (crap pictures) do not include the pressed in gusset located st the bottom rear portion just in front of the wheel opening.
HBC has a USA made one, outter skin, that looks good ?. I am looking for reecommendations of actual experience.

Thanks Mike

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Hurst shifters
« on: January 21, 2016, 01:48:07 PM »
The long rod, 3-4 shift is fine thread. BB and SB.

I went back to my high res photos... and what Mike asserts is true on my shifter rods..  ie.  The long 3-4 rod has fine threads, the others are coarse thread. And note on OE rods there is only a single jam nut.

But this does beg the question:  WHY???

My guess is that because the 3-4 adjustable rod end is the only one that is internally threaded, it was done this way to allow for a finer adjustment when one revolution was made.

Restoration / Re: Kick panel sealant - where and how much?

The ones I have done I roll the sealer out by hand about the size of a hot dog, and press well into place as your tightening up the screws.

Just recently at the MCACN show I had lunch with one of my Cleveland Chevelle car buddies and his friend. In talking with them I found out they both worked at the Chevrolet plant in Parma Ohio back in the mid to late 60's. My buddy is about 68 ish now.
They said they were both involved with drive shaft's and balancing, they made shafts for more than several Chevrolets'.
I specifically ask if they knew anything about the strips, they explained that when doing the code stripes, and while the shaft was still in the ballancing fixture,  the guy might hold several paint brushes at a time while the shaft turned in the fixture.
So the one reason to post all this, they both indicated to me that one the the 3 strips was a shift code. If it was consistent, who knows ? And if not, that may explain why you'll see only two stipes at times.

Originality / Re: 69 Gas Caps revisited - original Cap?
« on: December 05, 2015, 06:00:52 PM »
All the round caps seem to have paper gaskets...  mine does....

I have restored dozens of the round caps, and some that I purchased have had a rubber gasket. 100% sure these were later service replacements. Also on the round caps there are at least 3 differant designs of the back gold plated poppet housings. Some of the later design  poppet housings on the rear have 3 inverted dimples near the vent hole, this is because the poppet in side of these are made from solid brass and the dimples allow for a air path. The previous design used a stamped steel poppet with two partial relief holes on there edge to allow for air to enter or escape.

I watched that video a while back, and did not believe what I saw, and that was the cap with ears.
I have restored a bunch of the round caps over the years and looked at quit a few original cars with there born with assy line gas caps including 1970 Chevelle's that used the same "Round" Stant vented anti-surge cap.
I would have argued long and hard that the ear cap had not even been made in 1969.
Any thoughts on the one in the video ? Maybe a early engineering test thing ?
Shauger have you seen the video with the ear cap ? Interesting, never say never ?
