I have used a shrinking disk with some success. Go to You Tube and do a search for "Metal Shrinking Disk". There are a bunch of Video's that will give you an idea of what is involved.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a product that looks like the original cream colored sealent used to put the oval trunk/floor pans is place?

Thank you.

Lord Fusor 800EZ, excellent stuff, very close to OE color, easy to brush out. Should be able to buy it locally too. Comes in a metal tube.
This is what to look for.

Restoration / Re: Stripes - to feel them or not to feel them
« on: January 23, 2009, 01:49:50 AM »
Ditto to what was said already.....Single stage the stripes on top of the last coat of clear, sand and buff. Don't clear over the SS. I have done more than a few this way and they look like a million. And with the high quality tape the edge lines are perfect and smooth out very nice with sanding and buffing.

Maintenance / Re: 1969 Big Block Failed to Start!
« on: January 01, 2009, 07:30:39 PM »
It can also be the windings in the starter. If there is a bad spot in the windings and the starter stops in just the right spot, you can have what you are describing.  A good starter repair place will have a growler that can test the windings. The local Pep boys won't.

Ditto to what Charley said. A few years ago I had the same problem with my son's SBC 72 Chevelle. We would smack the starter housing a few times while someone held the ingnition switch to the start position and it would eventually turn over. Then it would be fine for the next upmteen starts. Definitly not heat soak.

General Discussion / Re: Door jamb pin switches
« on: October 09, 2008, 12:46:23 AM »
Steve
The jam switches are switching the ground. There is no power at the jam switches.
When one , or both doors are open the switch is closed. And providing the ground for the dome light.
The double contact on the L/H jam switch is knothing more than a jumper that runs over to the R/H jam switch.

Originality / Re: X77 Grille
« on: June 29, 2008, 12:58:44 PM »
Picture of my 10 10 X66 car with the original owner, you can make out 1970 Ohio plates on the car. The car is a 05A car so I think it had to be fairly new yet.
FYI (for your inspection ) silver grill. Also car appear's to have been built with chrome rings on the headlight buckets.  :o When looking at the original photo there seems to be a sparkle coming of the the headlight rings. Oh my, if that is the case, I have a faulty car !!

The Phosphate coating on these hoods "IMO" could vary from a lighter gray to very dark, I have seen a bunch of original and NOS ones. It was note an exact science and there probably is no one correct shade.
 I like the darker ones.

Ditto that, just finished up on a 69 Nova SS and spent over $600 bux on AMK kits, overall I rate the stuff 8 out of 10, room for improvement, but still the best bet ??
