General Discussion / Re: 1968 L/89
« on: October 09, 2011, 08:15:00 PM »
Yes, a different gasket was used. Cast iron L78 heads used the 3863199 gasket while the aluminum L89 heads used the 3921940 gasket. The "compressed thickness" probably had minimal effect, if any, on the compression ratio.

I'm assuming you mean different from the L78, and the answer would be no. Only difference between the L78 and L89 was the addition of the aluminum heads.

Originality / Re: Outside rear view mirror

12 DMI 1 is a mirror manufactured in December of 1971, so it's not original to your car.

Like John stated above, it's the Holley "Universal replacement" carb sold at speed shops around the world for half a century. Yours was built in early November, 1994 (?) (The -4 was the 4th generation of this carb so it's probably a 1994 manufacture. There's also a -2, -3, -5 and -6, all indicating the generation.)

1968 - Orphans / 18L324909 LF7 on Riverside Craigslist
« on: September 30, 2011, 10:44:15 PM »
http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/pts/2614602414.html

VIN: 18L324909
Suffix: V1229ME

Location: Riverside, CA

This is a complete 327 large journal short block out of a 1968 camaro. It is casting number 3914678 which indicates 302, 327, or 350 large journal 2 bolt mains. Only produced in 1968 this is a very rare casting number from what im told and is correct for corvettes, camaro z-28 etc. only the crank would be differant to acheive the differant displacements. The date code shows it was cast on Dec 20 1967. It has a 327 crank casting# 3911001 and the desirable 7178 main caps. It is stock bore, turns freely and apparently has never been rebuilt. Looks to be in great shape except light rust in one cylinder. would definitely clean up with a bore job. Have an oil pan to go with to ease transport as well. Located in riverside but i could make delivery arrangements depending on distance in southern california. These are selling on ebay for between $650 and $2800, so if i dont sell it here im going to auction it. I would rather not deal with that though and willing to part with it for $400 or best offer 951-836-0620 ask for Bryan.

General Discussion / Re: How many 1967 Camaro RS//SS autos were made?

I have been trying to find out how many RS/SS autos were built in 1967 and I have not been aqble to find this data.

That's because the info isn't available. Chevrolet kept records of option totals, but not COMBINATIONS of options, so you can look at the OPTIONS PAGE and see how many L48 (SS350) cars were produced, how many Z22 (Rally Sport) cars were made and how many came with M35 (Powerglide), but not combinations.

General Discussion / Re: What Would You Do?
« on: September 21, 2011, 11:52:25 PM »
I just rebuilt mine this weekend and as I stated above, it's very easy to do. However, PLEASE be very careful of the thin shim. You can cut yourself very easily if you're not careful (don't ask how I know).
