Maintenance / Re: Rebuilt motor tuneup
« on: January 30, 2006, 12:56:56 AM »
Well I had a hard time tring to find a piston stop. So I took a piece of wooden dowl rod 1/2" and used it, the piston stoped at the same point both ways( a little over 2" ) so that means my marks are good right? I know you told me not to advance the cam a few degrees, but I forgot to tell the shop. So since it is advanced 3- 4 degrees would that mess with the timing? The only other thing I can thik of is the dist. It was in the car when I got it (mallory unilite ) Thanks Bob

« on: January 26, 2006, 10:46:32 PM »
I need help with finding out where the second part of the stero plugs in to the main section .I changed the heating core the other day,and when I pulled the heater box down the second half of the raido came with it .I put it aside and finisshed the heater. ( not as bad as I thouhgt ) When it fell it came unpluged ( heavy black cable with about 8 prongs on it ) and I can't find out where it goes. It's hard to see so I'm mostly feeling for it. Anyone know where to look ? Thanks Bob

Thanks John, I think the valves are to tight,I have rollers and when I adjusted them they seam to compress a little when I pushed down on the rod side of the rocker. So I pushed down on them and gaped them that way. Everything is new and I thought they needed to break in in order to seat. How much drag should I have on the feeler gage? And does a 302 ever have a sweet spot other than at 4 before, like mabe 20 before? Thanks Bob

Maintenance / Rebuilt motor tuneup

I need help trying to figure out why my 302 (30-30 cam ) wants to run at 20 before. It has a MSD dist ( unlite ) that I know nothing about, could this be messing with my setting? It seams to run good at 20 before. I doin't think there's a vacume leak, it idels fine but I only get about 8 lbs. of vacume. the cam was advanced 4 degrees could this be it. And last I think I might have the valve lash to tight ( I doin"t here any noise under the covers ).One more thing is the gas is 6 months old . Any ideas Thanks Bob

The problem I'm having is my gage only reads about 1/2 full when I fill it up. But it does move down after a while & at about 1/8 full starts to be right. It's in a 69 with console & gages.Any one know where to look first Thanks Bob

yea 1,200
There's obviously something wrong with the statement "12,000 rpm for 5 minutes." Is that a typo?

I finialy have my motor back together ( 302 30 over ) It's all new execpt the crank & rod's ( I needed to put bushings in the rod's to get the right fit) My question is how do I break it in. Thanks Bob        One other question since I have roller rockers ( true 1.5 ) should I gap at 30.

John i was at the shop the other day and took a look at the 482 heads, and put my 202 valves in them and they fit nice and high.( I doin't think they ever had a valve job ) I then checked the port size with water it came to 174. Is it possable that these are stock 202 heads. Or is there a way to fool me. Thanks Bob
