Originality / '69 Z28 fuel pump
« on: December 04, 2007, 05:43:57 AM »
I have been told that the correct  AC fuel pump is part number 6470008 with a number stamped on the side of 4G40669.

An October 1969 GM parts book shows this as correct for the “( 327, 350)”. The book does not list one for a 1969 “302”.

Several “correct” ones on ebay do NOT have these numbers.

The pump is for a quality resto, so any information as to what was original will be appreciated.

I'm not sure what part # you are asking for, but the engine suffix code stamped on the block pad would be MZ and the block casting # would be 3902406.

Thanks, Ed, for all your hard work on the report.  Those pics are a very good reference source.  This type of technical information is why so many 1st gen Camaro enthusiasts frequent this site.  Keep it up CRG ;D

Looks like this pic?  The following is from CRG data.

The LOS (Los Angeles/Van Nuys) body scheduling code is a letter followed by one to three digits, e.g., F103. Based on data analysis only (there is no GM documentation yet available that describes this code) - but with consistent application to thousands of datapoints - CRG believes the code was used by LOS Fisher Body (and other plants that built multiple carlines) to aid in scheduling the body build order.

The mounting adapter that the steering wheel is attached to should be the same color as the steering column.

I can't comment on the trans.  IMO - The block stamp looks good.  The VIN ...hmm, I would lean towards questionable, also (but I haven't seen any stamps from this build period).  I, too, would like see it without all the paint and would like a better pic of the trans,  Attached is a couple of pics of my former 02A  LA built Z (man, I miss that car :'( )

IMO - That's a real Van Nuys tag.  Should be a 1 under that rivet to make it a 12B car. Nice color/interior combo.

Also, if you look in the '69 assembly manual in the ZL2 section, it shows the hole location (above the fuse block) and size of the hole.

You have contacted the DMV and have an appointment with CHP.  You are on the right road.  Good luck!

I remember reading about and seeing pictures of a 67 code 69 Z ordered with red Z stripes.  I think the car was somewhere around San Jose, CA(?). I looked through some files I have, but couldn't come up with the article :(

Yes, paint code #67 was available on a 69 Z.  I have witnessed several with this color. :)

Unless you plan on reaming the motor with 7k rpm gear shifts at every opportunity :o, my vote is for the original motor.
