General Discussion / Re: A little help valuing one of my ‘69s

I know it’s a difficult proposition to value something without photos.  I had one or two prints from the time of purchase but I can’t locate them to scan them into digital format.  As I said in my original post, it’s stored in a way that makes it nearly impossible to shoot any meaningful pictures (a 20 foot enclosed trailer that has become storage for four or five other car projects).

I appreciate everyone who made the effort to give me a ball park estimate.  I’ll make an attempt to get some sort of photographic evidence to support my description.

I’ve intended to build the car for years but the reality is I have more cars to build than I have years in which to do it ;D .  For the right price I’d lighten the load.

He made an offer which I considered too low.  I countered and he thought I was too high.  I intentionally left the prices out so as not to prejudice the responses here.  I was interested in the opinions.

Maybe his offer was fair ( but still not enough to pry it out of my hands)  but since he’s a friend I felt I should at least do a reality check.  It’s not like it’s some tire kicker off Craigslist.

A friend is nagging at me to sell him one of my ‘69 Z/28s.  I can’t post photos as the car is stored in a manner where it can’t be photographed.  It is an LA built car with its original short block (numbers match) still in the car.  It came with no top end but I have sourced 186 heads, an intake and a date correct 4053 carb.  It has a GM cowl hood but it’s not original to the car.  12 bolt, Muncie and OEM Hurst shifter present.  Factory Daytona yellow with standard black interior (no vinyl roof).  Full gauges and AM radio.  It has the narrow rear spoiler and is a February build.  Mechanically it needs a full rebuild.  Body wise it had rot in both the front and rear lower window channels but those were both professionally repaired right after I picked the car up about 13 years ago.  Other than that, no rust but plenty of small dents and dings.  Floors and trunk are solid.  Rear window is present but the front broke when removed for rust repairs.  Interior is rough but I have sourced excellent condition original door panels  and a full set of standard seat belts.  Seats will need to be recovered.  Dash is intact as are the console and gauges.

I wasn’t looking to sell but he is pestering me to no end.  Looking for input on a fair price to buyer and seller so I can make a decision.
Thanks in advance.

It's a good project car - I remember seeing it in 06. Doesn't seem that long ago.....
If you know any of the drivetrain codes, can you post them? Thanks!

Kurt, Intake is Casting # 3927183 dated C 25 9.  More as I get to them.

engine code on pad is T0430DD - which jives with the car.  No VIN derivative on pad...will see if I can get a look down by oil filter.  I have the cast date on the intake too but need to go look it up.  Alternator and water pump have been swapped out for newer units.  Doubt I will get the code off the tranny but am aiming to pull code from rear end...will post when I do Kurt.

I planned to not post again and just let the thread die but after reading the last three posts I figured I " owed" a status report.  No doubt you have noticed I have not yet posted on TC.  I figured that since that would be an actual advertisement I needed a few more photos showing details (like the broken tail lamp lens) for which I just could not find the time yesterday.  I also need to track down any parts I may have (like the OE lens to replace the aforementioned broken one).  Really should have that all nailed down rather than a bunch of hand waving  and guessing.  This thread was pretty ad hoc and not really what one would want to see in an actual listing...so I guess I should be thanking CRG for letting me see the wrinkles that needed ironing ;) .  I have another site on which I am very active (not TC ;D ) so know the members fairly well.  II will mostly likely give those guys a shot before you see it at TC for the same reasons I was going to go here first.

I've always thought this was a keen little car and had envisioned it completed in it's original color being driven by my daughter.  But as I watched her enthusiasm for C3's grow I realized I should give her a choice.  Once the choice was made I realized that I really had to get the number of cars around here down...I'm not getting any younger and have too many left to build...plus I only have so much garage space ;) .  It's taken me since March to mentally let this car go (after I've had almost 8 years of planning it's restoration under my belt).

If it doesn't sell at the other site then I will post up here to let you all know when it hits TC.  You will note that there is still no price mentioned.  That's because this is not an ad but a discussion about a fairly original car and it's fate.  On that note I will add this:  if any one has questions about details, colors, etc I would be happy to take photos or whatever of this car and post back up here in this thread.

Or are you just trying to create enough buzz to get a few guys to start making you offers? seems like you have to decide wether you are trying to get every nickle out of it (ebay auction etc)
Or if money is not your motivator as you state that you want it to go to somebody that will give it the TLC, then there should be a price stated.
So which is it?
-No price to generate a private bidding war?
-a price listed so someone that has real interest may contact you, knowing there aren't a bunch of side deals going on?

Ya know, the more I think about it the more I resent you coming down on me for following your very specific advice.  Guess I shouldn't have have done so, that's my bad.

...If there is a problem, I think you could safely post pictures of it on CRG and state all the facts about the car and then say you are thinking of selling it, and you would probably get a few PM s of members who would be interested. Just an idea

One final thought...Selling the car to someone who cares is not mutually exclusive with making money on the deal.
The car has to go.
The money will go towards completing my daughter's Corvette.
I'd just prefer that those interested in the car for something other than hot rodding would end up with it but at the end of the day it ends up with who it ends up with.

Actually I was doing stuff with the family as opposed to watching this site.  Well, ummm, no bidding war, I was actually following your advice to just post up some details and photos to generate some conversation.  Until I put a price on it the post wasn't an ad.  I was hopping for a CRG member like Kurt to provide some guidance (which he did) so I'd know which way to jump.

Joe,
While I appreciate your intentions, I'd rather not have classifieds on the forum. Team Camaro has classifieds well covered. :)

Thanks!
Thanks Kurt...that's the feedback for which I was waiting...:)

I'll take it elsewhere.

PS...did you get this one in the data base when you were out years ago?

The interior is really the crown jewel here.  I hesitate to use the word here due to the color but it really is mint.  The pictures do all of the talking:

The armrests are a little discolored.  The package tray is sun baked.  The dash is a little sticky

I'm happy to take other photos as requested.

The engine compartment is very complete although dirty.  I need to verify the block as original again (did it years ago, I think, but did not document).  The original owner told me he had his mechanic put heads on the car that would work with unleaded fuel...so I assume that they are not OE.  The car runs but has two problems...a carb that desperately needs a rebuild and a constant stream of blue smoke out the tail pipe.  The brakes are very mushy - I think it is due to a rear wheel cylinder leak.  The same mechanic that installed the "unleaded compliant" heads also recommended a brake job (on a car that was in storage...go figure).  He did a poor job as when one steps firmly on the brakes the car executes a hard right turn.  These are all easily remedied items I just never got to the stage of tearing the car down to restore it.

I thought it somewhat interesting that a Norwood built car was sold new in LA...not that it didn't happen just a little unique.

The car was painted at some point during it's life a dark green and then an Earl Schieb white.  Both poor quality repaints...they have flaked off in spots revealling the glossy Frost Green beneath.  Some exterior shots:

The left tail lamp lens has a chunk missing. I believe I have a very good original to replace it (need to check the boxes)

According to original owner he lent the car to his mother-in-law to drive until it was parked in about 2000.  She is responsible for denting the front lower valance, front bumper and cracking the grill.  she apparently did this in a grocery store parking lot.  He said she hit a shopping cart but I think it might have been more like the shopping cart return.   ;D

The car retains it's original issue black plates...something I thought was really cool.
