General Discussion / Rear Fiber optic help
« on: April 26, 2022, 12:59:06 AM »
Any help to which vehicle this goes to would be appreciated. I’ve researched but can’t find a definitive answer. There is only left and right. No center light but the molding shows where the center lens would be like on the Camaro. Thought it might be Chevelle…

Originality / From the files of “They NEVER built it”.
« on: April 25, 2022, 09:18:42 PM »
I’ve seen it, worked on it, given advice on how to preserve it, pushed him to show it in public for people to see it. His name is Lee and back in the 50’ thru the 70’s, his father in law was a big wig at Chevrolet in Engineering. Lee and his wife got her father’s demo. Back window is original, the grill and gas cap emblem were restamped, it’s got some “experimental parts on it”.

I’m the 2nd owner, and the car is a 11E build. The owner kept every record for what was done and . I didn’t realize until I owned it for a few years that there’s no “Astro ventilation“ cutout. Has anyone else seen this?

6-cylinder Camaros / 6 Cylinder Resto Info
« on: April 22, 2022, 08:59:25 PM »
Back to the site after moving to San Diego 5 years ago. I’ve enjoyed reading the posts about the 6’s. I bought mine in 1986 from the original owner and still have it. She ordered it from Lustine Chevrolet in Washington DC  back in Nov 1967, and even kept the order sheet. It’s a Teal Blue Convertible with a BLUE top, Rally Sport, 250, Powerglide, A/C, console, wood wheel, and a lot more. This woman kept every single document; from the radio instructions to the throttle linkage clip recall. She had the recall work done and the receipt even has the Protect-O-Plate information showing where they slid the machine over the plate. After driving it for 7 years as my daily, I crashed it, then restored it-keeping a 6 in it. While living in Northern Virginia, I went to Carlisle every year since 87 and picked up some great parts along the way. Tilt column, Fiber optics, fold down rear seat, front disc brakes, and more from people “tired of dragging around stuff”. Anyway, the car is a stock restoration with options that were available for 68. If anyone has a copy of John Hoopers 67-68 Recognition Guide, my car is in it—Specifically in the 6 cylinder section. It’s on the back cover of the book. John had a Camaro parts business in Westminster, Maryland, and after his first book I asked “Where’s the 6 cylinder stuff”? He said “Get me the pictures and info” and that’s about it.  Shortly after in Oct 1993, I sadly wrecked it on the way to my hobby shop to install the tilt column. I beat the ticket, and got the restoration done. I finally decided to add some things to the car, because it’s mine and could have been ordered with it or dealer installed. Fast forward to 2022 I’m finishing up the unfinished things from the restoration. Getting the headlight doors hooked up all the way, installing my dealer optioned dash tachometer, and more. Here’s a few pictures.

At the DMV in San Diego today, this guy rolls in. His neighbor had it sitting for 30 years and let it go. Original owner with protect-o-plate and everything else.  Pictures are from my phone, are what they are. 4 option car. 250 with a 3 speed floor shift. It’s a Van Nuys Car

General Discussion / Dealer Tachometer Repair
« on: April 16, 2022, 11:19:14 PM »
The light works, but there’s a broken black wire and I’m not sure where it goes to. Anyone who has had great success with any vendor who does repairs with your parts is appreciated. It’s a dealer tach…not many out there.
Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / Ricks Camaro-Make A Wish Contribution
« on: April 16, 2022, 11:13:40 PM »
Rick’s a good guy from the the few times I’ve met him.  Many moons ago in 1995 when he owned the business, my Camaro club (Mid Atlantic) did a Make A Wish project for a teenager with terminal brain cancer. Rick arrranged for us to receive “Same day shipping”at Reagan Airport in DC. It was a literal pickup bed -8ft bed— full of stuff-on the tarmac. He didn’t have to do it, but he made it happen. Everything was in stock and in the order. $3500 or more of parts.  If I remember correctly, there were some extra parts tossed in somehow. Kind of like….”Gonna need this or these anyway while you’re there ”. And it wasn’t just him, there were a lot of others involved. From the local Chevy dealer body shop, hi end stereo install, new glass, upholstery and more. We beat Garage Squad to it by 20 years. Looking for pictures but can’t find any. Apparently not everything is on the internet.

The link is below to the only article I found on the web.

General Discussion / 08D build

Quite possibly a day 1 or 2 build day on eBay….at least the trim tag was. Suspect tag for sure. RR paint code. Matador red. But nobody put a vinyl top on a car.

Posting here because the last one was in 2018. Is there a more complete copy of the 68 version available? My copy lists a lot of options that aren’t shown. I got my book in 1992 or so.

General Discussion / Dealer installed tach
« on: April 12, 2022, 02:00:07 AM »
I read about the dealer tach in an older post, but still need a little help. Abiddle, thanks for uploading the pictures of the instructions on that older post; but was I wondering if you or anyone else had copies with a bit more clarity. I fabricated a mount for my 68, and will be installing it soon. I saw the pictures of it mounted in the red car close to radio speaker, but don’t think that’s correct. Mine is the the GM version with the pebble grain finish. I’ll post a few pictures when it’s on and regardless if it works, it will look cool. I’m curious if the thing knows the mighty 6 cylinder is coming.
If anyone can message Abiddle on this post, please do.

If you have any documents/assembly instructions that you can upload for those hard to find dealer add on, I would appreciate it. I have a few I want to install(picked them up forever ago).
68-Dealer dash mounted tach currently is my project.
