General Discussion / The Rabbit Hole of Documentation
« on: August 06, 2022, 04:04:14 PM »
If you have never clicked on the box in the upper left corner of the page, I highly encourage you to do so. It is sometimes information overload but incredibly educational. Pick a box, dive in,be educated, pick another box, and so on.

Check out this nugget I copied from there, as I was shocked by the 2nd sentence and had to reread it.

Chevrolet Assembly - Front Sheet Metal Subassembly
All the color-painted exterior front sheet metal panels, plus the black-primed radiator support, inner fenders, and center grille support and the low-bake painted grille were conveyed to the sheet metal assembly area; all were in "Broadcast" sequence, matching the sequence of bodies on the main assembly line. Option holes for engine emblems, antennas, Vigilite housings, nameplates and moldings were pierced in large hydraulic fender piercing fixtures before the fenders were placed in the assembly fixtures.

So I guess itís ok to punch out a hole in a perfectly good painted fender. Who knew.

Originality / Dealer Over the Counter Tachometer late 60ís
« on: August 04, 2022, 04:24:43 AM »
Thought I would share my latest addition. I picked this gem up in Carlisle Pa back in the early 90ís and finally got the itch to install. It was definitely rough, but some TLC and elbow grease was all it took. I took some scouring the web to even find anything about this, (and found it some here on CRG-see the link below) and fortunately found a few pictures of the mount, screws,
If your car didnít come with a tach, but you wanted one because your friend had one in his car, the dealer offered this. This tach came in 2 versions. Chevy Bow tie on the top or GM stampedÖthis being the Bow tie. Originally intended for 8 cylinder cars, it fits just fine on the ole 6 banger. I was thinking years ago about the the console gauge conversion, but got squirreled. Fortunately it worked when I tested it, and the light looks cool at night. Installing it took some ingenuity, and some custom adjusted tools with the windshield installed due to limited space, but well worth with it. I canít recall ever seeing one installed.
Thanks to Abiddle for the post from 2015 for without this wouldnít have been successful.

Restoration / Painting the RS grill
« on: August 01, 2022, 12:05:23 AM »
Mine is an 11E build, so after researching/asking what to color it with, I decided to give it a go. Using actual paint, a small brush and not a pen. Tomorrow Iíll be cleaning up the overpainted area, and evening out any ugly discrepancies. It will never be a judged car and Iím ok with that.

General Discussion / 67 68 69 Rear window convertible defogger
« on: May 23, 2022, 05:33:33 AM »
Does anyone have or know of a member/friend car with one installed. Looking for 2 parts, but pictures of parts actually mounted in the trunk would really help. Iíve seen all the posted pictures on the web, but members cars would help me more because I. Sure they could have better details. Convertible motor/duct location for mounting are what Iím looking for. My 68 does not have any dimples for mounting parts in the trunk and getting it right the 1st time is kind of important. If you know someone who can help, I would appreciate it.

Originality / They Never built it #2
« on: April 26, 2022, 04:03:52 AM »
Many of you know this car because of the number of magazines it has been featured in. The 68 Pete Estes Z28 convertible. Back in the late 1990ís, the current owner was supposed to be at the International Camaro Club annual show in the Poconos. He had a trailer issue but finally made it on Sunday around 4pm. I think his name was Milt Robson. Nice guy, and let anyone left there gawk, ask questions, take photos, etc. Anyway, as I burned up my last roll of film, someone asked him to put the top down. He didnít know how, so I showed him how to drop it and fold the back window so it doesnít crease. Anyway, apparently this car has traded hands quite a few times, but I found some erroneous info in every article I read. Every article states a cross ram setup, but it didnít have one back then. Loaded-yes. Pretty-yes. Coolest Z ever? No question about it. And you have to lose the triple groove pulleyó(Got one on my 68 250 cubed engine). A slightly blurred line here? Yes. Attached are pictures of the car, hood, but clearly a single carb with the wacky ducted hood with the cross ram air cleaner on top. It is what it is, but when I found my pictures I wanted to share.

Any help to which vehicle this goes to would be appreciated. Iíve researched but canít find a definitive answer. There is only left and right. No center light but the molding shows where the center lens would be like on the Camaro. Thought it might be ChevelleÖ

Originality / From the files of ďThey NEVER built itĒ.
« on: April 25, 2022, 09:18:42 PM »
Iíve seen it, worked on it, given advice on how to preserve it, pushed him to show it in public for people to see it. His name is Lee and back in the 50í thru the 70ís, his father in law was a big wig at Chevrolet in Engineering. Lee and his wife got her fatherís demo. Back window is original, the grill and gas cap emblem were restamped, itís got some ďexperimental parts on itĒ.
