General Discussion / Money for nothin’ from 23.
« on: January 01, 2024, 05:29:06 PM »
Happy 24 to everyone. As I reflected for 25 seconds on 23, I realized how much I have gotten for free from this forum. From the reports to the friendships (yes, I’ve actually met some of these people), and best of all-pictures!! If you have gotten your money’s worth of advice and more here for free, you should donate as well. $5 a month or $60 for the year (which is what the ad free experience at T.C. is), is more than fair to help you out with your problems for you and your car. Imagine how hard your possible expensive purchase or current project would be if all you had to rely on was the web. Plus there are no ads here. Click on the “Donate tab” at the top.

General Discussion / Part shown in AIM but no number
« on: November 07, 2023, 05:33:26 AM »
For my 68 the top alternator bracket (6 cylinder) is shown also for 67 and 69, but no part number called out. The non power steering bracket for a smog pump, and with ps and smog is different too, and they have part numbers. Now confused and wonder why the bracket never got put back on. #9 is not the part, but the one behind it is. The other ones all have numbers. If someone finds it listed in the AIM, I would appreciate it. If not, I’m still confused. Lil help please.

General Discussion / Radio restoration
« on: November 05, 2023, 12:52:36 AM »
One round trip from  San Diego to Pomona to the radio guys shop. He came recommended and was really nice. We had already traded emails and talked. Here’s the story…my 68 has a factory AM/FM. I pulled it out in 1989 or so because the light bulb blew out. Changed it out, 2 weeks later the radio quits, so I put in the ol’ Sparkomatic with the 5 band equalizer /power booster. Pull Sparky out during restoration and put in non functional radio.
Now at the radio guys shop and told him I don’t have a front speaker. The original front speaker got tossed forever ago and now I new to source a front core somehow (found a convertible rear already). He walks over to a plastic bin, pulls it down and says “take your pick” while he answered all my questions about fitment, date codes, etc. We tested my fader control -Tis good to go. So I get reconed OEM front (with the mount bracket) and rear speaker, fader installed, a “I’m replacing all these parts that fail over time” and showed me an example, cleaning, lubing, tuning, etc. In about a month it’ll be done. He even showed my Bluetooth piece that can connect to the FM frequency. Factory radio -no extra cables! Stay tuned.

So I got my NOS alternator mount bracket, took of the very brittle parts label, dropped it in Evaporust, and upon examining I found a bunny rabbit head stamped on the backside. Any ideas?

General Discussion / GM Alternator replacement numbers
« on: October 29, 2023, 10:08:09 PM »
I’m looking for the Chevrolet part numbers for 1968/9/70/71/72 replacement 61amp alternator.  My parts book is updated for 1974, but prefer the earlier version numbers if available.
My original alternator is 1100817 and was toast in Feb 1970. It’s impossible to find, so I’ll be fine with a correct GM replacement.
Mine lists 1100849 Delcotron
1846936 for a GM rebuild
I’d like both versions that are listed so I can research.
Thanks in advance.

General Discussion / I scored some new parts for not alot.
« on: October 24, 2023, 05:01:55 AM »
Found an original convertible rear speaker setup. While the speaker was used across the entire GM line, they’re hard to find now, and very pricey when you do.

A 67/8 rear defogger switch and harness.

The support bracket for my starter….that was work. I’ll take that luck any day.
