2131 HKR
replaced recall lift kit with this one I fabricated

17
installed Hooker Super Comp Headers #2131HKR on my 69 Z with power steering.
Fit pretty well with a minor pinch for the pitman arm screw and nut and another minor pinch for steering box clearance.
Pinched done with a block and a hd C clamp.
Factory Lock Out linkage no alterations needed and plenty of clearances.
The head shields went back on also.
By now, you think hooker would supply the 3/8 x 5/16 head header bolts instead of the 3/8 x 3/8. added another $25.00 with shipping for arps for 6pt heads
And why can't they have the necessary bends or pinches so they can just be installed with no alterations.
Otherwise, Happy with them!
Pictures are before I changed out the header bolts to the 5/16 heads.

General Discussion / Crossram under std cowl hood
« on: November 19, 2022, 04:32:09 PM »
Just wondering if the cross ram will work with the std (round hole) cowl hood.
Or does anyone know of modifications that can be made the hood to accept the crossram.
Not too crazy about modifying an original cowl hood, but I will on my aftermarket one.
Any ideas or recommendations will be appreciated.
Thanks in Advance,
Walt

Decoding/Numbers / Pad Stamp Tonawanda L48
« on: October 29, 2022, 03:22:41 PM »
This 4 bolt large journal short block is in good shape, std bore, original 3.48 crank, rods pistons and turns over smoothly
before i dismantle it and send out for cleaning and magnafluxing, I'd like to know what the vin #s might mean
TI004HN:
Tonawanda, October 4, 1968, 300 hp 350ci, 350 turbo hydromantic.
... the 00 are not the same?, I have heard of similar differences on other Tonawanda blocks including an I used as a 1.

the vin numbers are what I can't' figure out.
naked eye looks like: 19201276
with photo enhancement, the 9 may be a 3, the 0 may be a 9, if so: 13291276
please see picture.
any help is appreciated.
and thank you in advance,
Walt

Garage Talk / Vintage O2 Engine analyzer parts or repairs
« on: October 19, 2022, 05:03:44 PM »
Looking recommendations for parts or someone who can repair a vintage exhaust gas analyzer.
The O2 sensor in the sensing unit box is bad.
Peerless Part # HA 8210 A, but this unit is also used with the Stewart Warner, Sears Penske and some Sun Analyzers.
Meter unit is good.

Hoping there's another O2 sensor that can be used with this meter.

Thank in Advance,
Walt

Maintenance / Re: At a loss - engine stalls under load
« on: July 19, 2022, 05:07:44 PM »
Just throwing this out there.
After the floats checked, try increasing the squirter size +2 and test for any difference in stumble,
if it's better, then try the next accelerator cam up, try again and if the stumble is lessening, try the next couple of cams.
Had this stumbling and sometimes stalling issue with my stock 302 and when bumping up the accelerator cam, it took care of the stumble and stalling, therefore it was starving for fuel during load and acceleration by the pump cam curve not being enough.
It may be a good idea read and understand how these cams can affect your performance, for better or for worse.
Been thru it and I know your frustrations. Sometimes it just the simple checks we overlook.
Good Luck

Great replies and pictures. not sure when I will get to this, but when I do, I'll be sure to post the updated steps I uses to accomplish this.
I am still deciding on which headers to use, I would prefer to use the 1968 Z28 headers as first posted.

Hey Jimmy and Buddy, could I ask you to post some pictures of the driverside and linkages,
Thanks
Walt
