Originality / Re: Braided steel rope around 350 engine, 1967
« on: August 21, 2022, 07:52:51 PM »
A friend's mom drove a 1969 SS 350 Camaro for years and I remember seeing a cable on the driver's side.  There were no cables on my neighbor's 1968 Z28, although when he built the engine, we did replace the engine and transmission mounts.

General Discussion / Re: L78 Values
« on: August 04, 2022, 04:45:18 PM »
Some years ago, I was talking to a co-worker, who told me that he had a 1968 Camaro L78 that he was storing at Torrance Airport.  The Camaro was a 4-speed and he would occasionally take it out for a short drive.  I laughed when he told me how he muscled the Camaro around the airport and how much noise it made as the mufflers needed to be replaced.

My friend's 1968 Z28 was probably built at the Van Nuys Plant as I remember that when he replaced the door jamb vent grill on the driver's side, the door striker was not painted.

This Camaro appears to me to have been repainted as the door strikers and the trunk latch have been painted.

I bought Cooper Cobra GT tires for my 1979 Trans Am and I've been happy with them.

The fuel inlet in your gas tank could be clogged with debris.

My friend's 1969 Z28 has floor mats listed on the dealer invoice and I can check to see the part numbers the next time he brings it to our monthly Cars & Coffee show:

Garage Talk / Re: This hobby is dying
« on: June 07, 2022, 04:18:51 PM »
I was talking to someone at our local monthly cars & coffee show on Saturday as he was interested in buying a 1965/1966 Mustang fastback to restore with his daughter, who was just hired at JPL in Pasadena, CA.  It turns out that he had 2 1970 Cudas that he bought in the early 1980s, one was a 440, the other being a 426 Hemi.  Both cars had been sitting in the garage since the 1980s and needed some attention, but he hadn't gotten around to working on them.

cwyllie - If there is an O'Reilly Auto Parts in your area, they show (at my local store) a rebuilt power brake booster for a 1968 Camaro with front disc brakes and the 396 engine:

You will only have to push-in the button on the metering valve if you are using a power bleeder that cannot generate enough vacuum to pull fluid past the valve:

As you have already replaced the metering valve and haven't a problem with the front discs locking up when braking, I still think your problem is that the power brake booster is bad. - Mark
