« on: July 25, 2020, 04:33:59 AM »
Is the 04L and known error on a Norwood Cowl Tag?
Or is it my greybeard eyes and it is 04B and just difficult to read

Originality / DZ302 - Do the letters and numbers look to be correct
« on: July 19, 2020, 10:41:24 PM »
With all the paint still on the pad, it is hard to see the broad marks.
Do the letters and numbers look to be correct when compared to other original DZ blocks from the same month?

Originality / Master Cylinder Brake Lines
« on: July 11, 2020, 11:59:20 PM »
Are there supposed to be looped brake lines leading from the Master Cylinder and proportioning valve to the brake lines to each wheel?
Is this typical of a decades old replacement of Master Cylinder?

Decoding/Numbers / V2016WH Is it a mistake
« on: May 31, 2020, 12:50:34 AM »
Is an assembly line mistake in the order of the digits for the month seen on other 350's from early 69 engines?

Decoding/Numbers / X77 Cowl Tag, Real or Not
« on: May 28, 2020, 04:27:44 PM »
The owner is selling this as 69 Z/28, engine is listed as a 350, no protect o plate, no window sticker and no owner history, just an X77 Cowl Tag.
I would appreciate opinions on the originality of the Cowl Tag since "for entertainment" tags are so prevalent.

Decoding/Numbers / X33 Cowl Tag - Original or Reproduction
« on: May 15, 2020, 01:22:46 AM »
I am looking at 69 Z/28, not the original engine, no protect o plate, no dealer documentation and no owner history, just an X33 Cowl Tag.
I would appreciate opinions on the originality of the Cowl Tag since "for entertainment" tags are so prevalent.

I cannot quite read the Yellow Crayon on the rear bulk head.
Any tricks or tips on how to make the Yellow more visible from a digital image?

I am looking at what is represented as an original GM heater delete plate for a 69 Camaro and I noticed a Capital Letter "W" stamped into the metal
If not a restamp, is this one indication that the panel is original GM?

Decoding/Numbers / 69 camaro z28 dz 302 (northfield)
« on: April 09, 2020, 02:18:44 PM »
There is a DZ engine for sale on Craigslist and the engine pad is stamped V1007DZ and the date code is difficult to read and the casting number is 3970010.
Could I have a second opinion that this is an October 1969 build date and not an October 1968?
I am asking because the seller also has a 3279 crankshaft, which I thought was 68 and very very early 69 DZ's and would not be correct for this block.

Restoration / 69 Comfortweave Upholstery
« on: April 07, 2020, 03:08:51 AM »
I read that the equipment used to produce the GM Comfortweave upholstery was destroyed in the 1995 earthquake in Kyoto, Japan.
Has anyone found a source for an exact match to the GM Comfortweave or a source with inventory from before the earthquake?
Has anyone compared their original Comfortweave to upholstery from Rick's Camaro?
The website says " The comfortweave pattern on these seat covers is as close to original as can be made".

Decoding/Numbers / Any 3932388 DZ Engine Pads close to V0425DZ?
« on: March 12, 2020, 12:25:52 AM »
Does anyone have pictures of an engine pad of a Tonawanda cast block 3932388 with an April assembly date close to V0425DZ?
I would like to compare the font to an engine that is for sale.
Appears to have been decked once and maybe twice because the original stamping is very very faint except the Z which appears to still have some depth to the stamping.
There does not appear to be a VIN on the engine pad nor on the rough casting surface above the oil filter.

What are you thoughts on this, a factory original stamping or a re-stamp?
Both fives appear to be lower than the letter and number on either side

Decoding/Numbers / 68 Engine Block Missing Casting Date?
« on: February 20, 2020, 01:23:46 AM »
Has anyone ever seen an engine block or heard of an foundry explanation as to why a 68 or early 69 engine block ( 327/302/350) would be missing the the casting date, unless the casting date was intentionally ground away during a rebuild?

Decoding/Numbers / Raised letter "B" on my 350 rods
« on: February 15, 2020, 04:48:07 PM »
Does the raised letter "B" on my 350 rods indicate a rod from a factory high performance 350?
