I don't see ANY rivets holding that vin tag on.

True, probably undersized rivets and the VIN fell down. You can see evidence of some paint loss on the left hand rivet hole so there could have been something there working its way loose over time. Only way to know for sure is to get a more detailed picture down the rabbit hole.

Wow that is a very bad VIN install. But it can still be all yours for just $119,000 US.  :-[

I have no objections when it comes to doing recreations of a COPO or any other vehicle for that matter even if they messed up and put the wrong motor or transmission mounts in. That can be fixed.  What can't be fixed is when you start monkeying around and changing trim tags and potentially even VIN's. God knows what this could lead too. The dash panel on this vehicle has also been replaced so who knows if the VIN has been touched or not.

What a great job you are doing. I must admit if I was doing this it would be difficult for me to hold back and refinish some of these parts.
I am assuming you are replacing some of the rubber parts and gaskets etc if they are cracked, torn or degraded.

The guy can't even spell Jerry MacNeish correctly, so I doubt he is even able to use his book correctly.

If you are serious on getting the car back, maybe you can put a finders fee out there on Facebook or hire a investigator as Stingr69 suggested. I am sure someone out there knows who this millionaire is besides Mr.Griffith. If that is even a true story on not.

A question - why go to the expense and trouble of doing a resto-clone, advertise it as something it really isn't, and then attach the trim tag with rivets recovered from the Titanic ? I just don't get it - anymore than the local guy that attached his "X" tag to his "Z" with wood screws.

No comprende -

Steve

I think because most people are looking at the shinny things when buying, who looks at the trim tag and VIN...until maybe when it's too late.

People were looking for Richard back in 2019 already and the Great Pumpkin earlier than that.

Unless Canadian Z28 is Richard himself?
