All very true, especially the part about the major auctions!

When I see a First Gen at one of the Consignment Dealers to me, that alone is a red flag. That may be cruel, but I always get the feeling that there are some people who feel they could not look you in the eye and tell you their story, so they tell that story to a consignment dealer and let them run with it. We all know there are LOTS of fake cars for sale. Most end up on Ebay!!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Alternator/Water Pump dates
« on: April 16, 2021, 02:33:19 PM »
I have an 03B pacer which I bought in 1975 with 20,000 miles on it. Its been sitting in a garage since 1986. I have never changed the pump or the alternator (or many other parts). The Tonawanda engine was assembled March 5 and the Alternator is 9 C 5 (same day). I guess someone prior to me could have changed it, but what are the odds and who cared about dates back then?  The water pump is a 7170 pump with a "T" which I have always assumed meant Tonawanda. It is dated B-11-9.  The intake (7184) also has a "T" on it and is dated B-28-9. If you look at these 7184 intakes you will see the "T" version is different. The others, which I believe are Flint castings have an oil tube hole (early) or a closed circle where they filled in the oil tube hole. The "T" intakes do not have this. Just my .02 cents!

Black cars, especially black Z/28's, have an amazingly high survival rate  :)

FYI..the non-T intake I believe is the original incarnation. It starts off with the oil filler tube hole then blocks it. The "T" intake, which I believe (but cannot prove is Tonawanda) does not have the oil filler circle.  Does anyone have an original 69 with Tonawanda engine that can confirm if their manifold has a T?

It would be interesting to here if someone with an original Tonawanda built car had a "T" on their intake, or if they didn't

Were these manifolds cast in both Flint and Tonawanda and if so were there any markings to denote this? I have seen a few with 68 dates codes have a large T near the casting # which would (to me) indicate a Tonawanda manifold. Others have no markings. All seem to have a large R on them near firing order?

Restoration / Tonawanda Valve Cover Decal

Does anyone know of anyone who sells a Small Block version of this decal? I see a version for Big Blocks is fairly common. Thanks Bob
