Restoration / Re: wiper motor restoration
« on: October 18, 2021, 11:17:33 PM »
Steve....hope I can pick your brain since you were quick to spot these faults. While I seriously doubt anyone would open it up to look, I am one of those people that now that they know something is incorrect, it will drive me nuts. Both because its wrong, and in this case, because I was to lazy to open in up and take pics of the inside before sending it off.  So I see Heartbeat City sells the coil & bracket as a reproduction for $49 they claim are correctly plated and dated. Are they? They seem to only offer certain dates. I assume these were most likely made in batched and with my unit dated the 37th day of 1969 (Feb 6) I ok with the Jan 3rd date. Would you agree? For $50 I would just as soon replace it, if its correct. Last but not least...would you know the correct part # for the screws you believe to be incorrect?  Many thanks Bob

I am looking too. I spoke to Heartbeat City, they reproduce the correct rails and cores but indicated the wait is long. I also spoke with Jerry M who had his rebuilt and was pleased with the results so you might reach out to him. I haven't sent mine out yet!

Proof positive that our policies, safety labels etc have destroyed the natural order of selection and ruined the normal thinning of the herd. We are now left with this. Close you eyes and envision the gleam in his eye, and the pride he took, hanging that on the car!

Restoration / Finishes Question
« on: July 29, 2021, 05:13:11 PM »
I have seen many, many, great threads discussing the various finishes of parts of First Gens as well as Jerry's great book with his list of "accepted" finishes organized by part name. I was wondering if anyone, during their research or restoration created a list of parts grouping by finish so that if one were going to phosphate parts, send out for silver cad etc. we could make sure we included every known part that needed that finish. If anyone has, and would like to share, before I start trying to make my own (where I will surely miss some), I would appreciate it..Thanks Bob

Restoration / Re: Trunk sound deadner

Replicating the trunk splatter is very confusing to say the least. Some say the only process that passes judging as being factory correct is a lengthy multi-step process that only a few shops can do. We know the factory sprayed these trunks in seconds not over the course of a week. None of the spray can stuff looks the same, even the GM licensed AC Delco rattle cans are off. I noticed OER now produces quarts of Black/Aqua (which is different from the rattle can stuff they sell) which they claim is made by the original manufacturer with the original formula. They also sell a Binks 2100 gun, set up with the same fluid nozzle, needle and air nozzle, plus the pressure pot that duplicates what the factory used. Has anyone tried this?

Very sad. I knew his health was deteriorating. Like many, I have spent countless hours reading and learning from his technical articles and posts. His name and legacy in this hobby will go on for many years as new Camaro and Corvette owners read and learn from the wealth of knowledge he was so willing to share. My condolences to his family and a huge thank you for sharing him with us!
