Originality / 68 Factory Gauge Question
« on: November 09, 2018, 04:17:23 AM »
I'm restoring a 68 SS 396 with standard interior, and I just discovered it did not come with a console.  Is there any way to know if it came from the factory with any gauges?  I would actually prefer to not use gauges (as I feel they are many times a problem), or just a minimum, but my goal is to restore it as close to factory as possible.

I really appreciate any help you can give.

Originality / 68 Camaro SS396 Blackout Tailpan
« on: November 05, 2018, 03:43:49 AM »
Would someone be able to post pictures of a 68 Camaro SS396 blackout tailpan?  My body guy is asking several questions concerning it, and I thought pictures would help.  We want to make sure the correct areas are painted black.  The car does have a spoiler, and we also wonder if the back of it is black?  Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Restoration / Seat Fabric
« on: October 18, 2018, 06:04:20 PM »
I am restoring a 1968 SS with standard black interior.  I know the original seats were vinyl, but my first car was a '67 with vinyl and I still remember burning my legs many times during high school  >:(  I'm wanting the car to be as stock as possible, but I'm wondering if there are any good seat fabrics out there that give the stock/vinyl look, but maybe would be a little more friendly to bare skin.

Thank you for any help you can give!!

Mild Modifications / Stock-Looking HEI
« on: October 17, 2018, 03:58:43 PM »
I'm restoring a 1968 SS 396 to be mostly stock, but would like the advantages of HEI.  I have heard there are stock-looking HEI units available (mainly smaller cap), but have not been able to find one, and when I have asked suppliers they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Where could I get one of these stock-looking/small cap HEI's?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide!!

Restoration / 1968 SS 396 Clutch
« on: October 15, 2018, 06:55:29 PM »
I am restoring a 1968 SS 396 with Muncie 4-speed transmission.  I was given a Dynapak NU1909 clutch set and was told it would work for the car.  I did some research and it appears to me that this clutch will NOT fit my car.  Would anyone be able to confirm my findings?

I checked at Autozone and found a Valeo Clutch set p/n 52802210 that looks like it would fit my car, and it says it is an OE replacement.  If anyone has any input concerning this clutch I would appreciate it.  Or if anyone can recommend a clutch (that will not break the bank) that would be great.

This is not an area I am very familiar with, so I truly appreciate any help I can get.

Originality / 1968 Camaro SS Console Wood Grain
« on: October 09, 2018, 02:41:00 PM »
I'm restoring a 1968 Camaro SS with 4-speed manual transmission back to as close to factory as I can.  Did all of the consoles for this car have a wood-grained console?  My car is a May 1968 one, and my understanding is the ashtray might also be wood grain.  And is there any way to know if it came with gauges or not?

Any and all help is greatly appreciated!!!

I'm looking for a good source for 1968 big block exhaust manifolds, non-smog (3909879 & 3916178).  Nice original manifolds would be nice, but I'm assuming I'll probably have to go with reproductions.  I've looked at Rick's Camaro & SS396, but any help for other good sources would be appreciated.

Originality / 1968 SS Factory Tire Brand & Style
« on: October 02, 2018, 06:04:49 PM »
I am restoring my late brother's 1968 Camaro SS396/L35 late May '68 car to factory for most items.  I know the tire size is F70-14, but what brand and style of tire came with the car originally?  I am not a big fan of the redline tires, but I do like the raised white letter Dunlops and Goodyear tires.  I plan to take the car only to local shows, so it doesn't have to be 100% factory.

Thank you for any help you can give me.

I posted this in the general area, but didn't have any responses, so I thought I'd try this one.

Originality / 1968 SS Steering Wheel
« on: October 01, 2018, 09:41:34 PM »
I am restoring my late brother's 1968 Camaro SS 396, which will have an all black interior.  I have an N34 simulated walnut, wood-grained plastic steering wheel, and am wondering if this is the correct one for this car, especially since the interior is all black?  I thought I better verify it with some experts before I send it off to be refinished.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
