It looks like I ALSO need to work on my usage of the AIM! I was only looking on the L35, Sheet A5 and expecting that to tell the whole story. WHOOPS!! Lesson Learned.

Hello Members,

Can anyone tell me if '67 L35 starters had these starter solenoid wiring harness retainers? HBC lists this as a 67 part, but it's not in the AIM. Was this perhaps added later as a service bulletin item or wasn't it used in '67?

Do you know how much if any of the drivetrain is original to the car?

Yes I do Bryon. The motor, trans and rear end are all original to the car, and it still had the original, date correct starter. The original carb and distributor had been swapped with a Holley and Accel distributor. I've since replaced those with date correct pieces and also a date correct water pump, which was changed at some point. I was also successful in recovering the original exhaust manifolds, which had been replaced by Hooker headers.

The wife and I spent the entire day working on the car, mounting a restored, date correct Carter Quadrajet, fuel lines, kickdown switch and wiring. Earlier, my body man friend stopped out and helped install the firewall blanket and heater. So a respectable amount of progress was made today.

And I just sent the VIN off to the NCRS for their report and I'm very excited to find out the dealer that first had the car!

I can tell you that the oil line in 67 was translucent and not black. Black was used later from what I have seen.
As for fittings it looks like more than one style was used on the block and early Camaro's used a brass bulkhead connector on the firewall and later replaced with a grommet.

I reused the original brass ends on one side but the other side broke (crmost partacked) when I tried to open it for the new line so I used one in the Bosh oil line kit that I bought. The Bosh kit also has the brass sleeve inserts so the line doesn't collapse when the nut is tightened around the compression end.

Thanks for the reply. I had read the that previous discussion which, for the most part, was about the brass fittings in the block. I was wondering about those brass inserts in the line. I never gave it a thought that they were there to prevent the line being crushed. Thanks for the explanation and answering my question!

Restoration / '67 U17 Oil Pressure Line

Hello Members,

I have some questions regarding the '67 console oil pressure line which appears on U17, A4 of the '67 AIM. I'm using the Heartbeat City kit that is referenced as "OE Style":

This line which is described as "assembly line correct" incorporates a black nylon line, which the AIM refers to as "hose". My first question is, does the factory line have the brass orifices that the HBC kit has? These orifices can be seen in the line, if the kit illustration is enlarged. Has anyone installed this kit in their car? Did you use the orifices in one or both ends of the line and are you satisfied with how the oil gauge responds to pressure changes? My second question is, did you bleed the line during the installation?

I've installed aftermarket Stewart Warner oil pressure gauges in the past and these used copper or nylon lines that simply used the compression fittings at the ends, but didn't use any orifices to control the oil in the line. Does anyone know if the factory U17 oil pressure lines have these orifices? I'm just trying to avoid any problems with the oil gauge due to improperly installing this line and having to correct something later on.

This is a quote from rsinor who used to be in charge of these reports as to what you will get.

"the only thing that will be supplied out of these records in the service is the official production date, GM zone and GM dealer. we then take that information and search the GM dealer directories for the time frame to determine the dealer name, city and state."

This will be the dealer where the car was shipped to, not necessarily the selling dealer.  Dealer trades were not unusual back then and they still happen today.

Thanks for the additional info on the NCRS Chevrolet Shipping Data reports. I've visited the website and intend to utilize the service very soon! I know the used car dealer where the previous owner purchased the car. They've said they don't have any surviving records on the car. So discovering the dealer where the car was first delivered will be a very welcome nugget of information!

Welcome to the CRG!
The NCRS is the source for finding the original selling dealer. the cost is $50.
Do some searches on the site, there is a lot of information posted to get you started.

Greetings Everyone!

I'm Buzz and I have a Bolero Red '67 RS/SS L35 that I'm restoring with the help of a skilled bodyman. The car is presently in my hands and I'm performing the mechanical tasks of the project. I'm the third owner and have yet to research where the car was orginally sold. I hope to tap into the collective knowledge on the members and Administrators here to make my project the best that it can be!
