Try ZIP corvette    https://www.zip-corvette.com/63-67-c2/brakes/corvette-master-cylinders-components.html

There IS one there, for $3.99. I just may order it, 'cause chances are - it's the correct one.

Thanks Brian!

Restoration / Re: GM hood hinge springs
« on: September 06, 2018, 01:08:23 AM »
I think another key point is many cars can use the original hood hinge springs as in many cases they are not pitted with rust. A good soaking in Evapo-rust and oiling or some other rust preventative is all that is needed in many cases. Our 68 utilizes the original springs and they look like new.

I'll echo Chick's advice. That Evapo-rust stuff is a restorer's magic elixir! I soaked my rusted driveshaft inside a PVC tube of Evapo-rust overnight and it came out looing like new! And the painted stripes (not even visible before) hadn't been chemically removed and were now visible for documenting and repainting! Great Stuff!!

The first place IMHO that would know if it was required would be in the NCRS judging manuals at least for Corvettes and not aware of anything like that. Orientation would add cost and in mfg. there has to be a reason. Thought provoking question.... :)

Hi Chick!

We used to PM back and forth on the Camaros.net forum a couple years ago. Same Buzz. I lost steam on my project when the wife developed cancer. I've since got a renewed drive as she's expressed the desire to see the car finished before...well...you know.

Good to hear from you! Thanks for the reply!

Restoration / '67 Manual Disc Master Cylinder Mounting Gasket
« on: September 05, 2018, 11:29:09 PM »
Hello Members,

I'm trying to find a source for the gasket that goes in between the master cylinder and the firewall. It is item no. 11, on AIM UPC 5, A2, part no. 3792566. I haven't a clue as to where the original went, but I would want to replace it being 50 years old.

So far no one can tell me where to find one. I'd make one, but I don't know what is the proper material and I don't know how a judge would feel about a home made gasket. I doubt  if it would earn me any points.

Thanks everyone,
Buzz

Restoration / Re: Carter Quadrajet Choke Linkage
« on: September 05, 2018, 10:49:05 PM »
Hi John!

I'm not near the car, but at this time I believe it is what I'm needing. Is your carb a Carter or a Rochester. Just curious because I believe both are configured the same and are only different in name and slight difference in coloration. If it is, I'd like a picture from the front, facing the carburator. If I can trouble you for that.

I thought I would be traveling tomorrow, but that has now changed. I will try to get a picture of my carb on the intake and post it. Thanks a BUNCH and stay tuned.....

For example, I have a UNRESTORED 396 lid with Curved silk screen.
"IF" the cover decal on the top is at 6- O clock, the screen on the back is at the 9- O clock position.
Jim
I was pondering this. The arrangement you describe above, if memory serves, mimics the placement of the decal on the outside of say, a 327 black enclosed air cleaner. SO - yours is a survivor 396, with the curved silk screen service message. Is yours a '67? I'm trying to restore a May '67 L35. This info helps. Thanks!

I'm guessing either no one can answer this or those decals were just positioned where ever they landed.

Comments?

Restoration / Carter Quadrajet Choke Linkage
« on: September 04, 2018, 12:38:45 AM »
Hello Members,

I have reached a major pitfall in installing my Qjet carb. I have a May '67 L35 with the M40 400 trans which had a spreadbore Holley 850 cfm when purchased. I have been told it should a Carter Qjet instead of the more common Rochester and CRG reports seem to confirm this.

Carter Carburetors

The Carter "YF" single barrel carburetor was used only in 1967, and only on the six-cylinder engines with A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor, aka "Smog"). Other than this application, no other "Carter designed" carburetors (AFB, AVS, WCFB or Thermoquad) were ever installed from the factory on a first-generation Camaro. However, Carter was also licensed to build the Quadrajet as a secondary source, and supplied carburetors to not only Chevrolet, but other GM divisions as well. Note that all Carter-built Quadrajet carburetors will have the same part number and ID number as the Rochester-built Quadrajets, but will have "MFG BY CARTER CARBURETOR FOR GMC" cast into the carburetor body.

Things went smoothly until I tried to come up with the proper choke linkage. Nothing I have been able to acquire through parts vendors is the right part. If those members with this setup could post some pics of their choke linkage would be immensely helpful. And for those with any ideas or a solution to my problem would be very appreciated!

If anyone has one of these linkage rods they would part with PLEASE contact me here through the forum.

Thanks everyone!

Originality / Position of Air Cleaner Decals
« on: August 26, 2018, 05:05:00 PM »
Hello Members!

Was there a certain position that the motor cubic inch/horsepower decals were placed on the aircleaner lid in correlation to where the silkscreened "Sevice Instructions" image appears on the underside? I hope everyone doesn't think I'm being overly fussy about this tiny detail, but it seems others stew and fret about where factory stickers are placed and my originals were long gone by the time I acquired the car.

Thanks to all!

Helps if you say what the drivetrain is.... had to dig through your posts...
PW is good for the front. LH for the rear.

Yes, Thanks a bunch Kurt! And sorry you had to dig to figure out my drivetrain. Just to verify, it's an RS/SS 396, 325hp with a Turbo 400 and 12 bolt. It has no air, no power steering or power brakes. It does have the J52 disc brakes.

I'm going to speak with a gentleman that has a custom lettering business that also makes custom decals. I will update everyone when I find out if he can produce the shock stickers.

Thanks again,
Buzz

The shock absorber codes were included in the Chassis Broadcast Copy (see 1967 example attached - box 224 for the front - LG, and box 243 for the rear - LH), and yes, there were stickers applied to the shocks to make them easier to find for the guys on the production line. I don't remember seeing a chart or list of the codes, although Kurt may have some since he's got a ton of CBC's in his collection!

Ed

Thanks Ed! Now I know that the HBC stickers must be for a '69 big block because they sent me a pair of "PW" stickers for the front and a pair of "TN" for the rear. Can anyone tell me someone that makes these stickers?

Thanks again Ed!

I also would like to know if '67 cars had shocks code stickers. The HBC '67 decal kit includes shock stickers , but their packages are marked as 1969 stickers. Very confusing.....is it correct to apply shock stickers to a 67 resto or not?

Hello Members,

Where can I find a source for the correct shock codes for my '67? Are they in the AIM somewhere that I haven't found?
