How is this delivered? In a printed report delivered through the mail or is it an email?

Sorry if this question has been asked before -

computer is pretty slow and I didn't want to sift through the 35 pages.

Originality / Re: '67 Starter Solenoid WIring Harness Retainer?
« on: September 11, 2018, 12:33:55 PM »
Shoot. I already purchased and installed the Heartbeat version. Anyone know of a source for the '67 retainer? I'm still working on that side of the car and it's very accessible right now.

I formed up the linkage rod today. VERY HAPPY with how it turned out. I do still need to get the proper clip to finish it. And decide whether to plate it or just paint it. I'll probably need to plate other items later on, so for now, I think I will just paint it.

That valve may be an updated replacement you have but the original is a CV691C for the 396/325 HP
Replacements have a protrusion above the crimp line where as the original is flat...hence the word 'flat-top'.

Mike

I see. Mine protrudes above the crimp line. Thanks for the education!

Funny you should ask! I just very recently purchased a NOS AC Delco CV736C pcv. I understood that was the correct valve. I'm not sure what you mean by "flat-top" valve. Educate me, please.

Thanks,
Buzz

SO which is correct? Both? Which was the STANDARD setup? L35, A8 or the K24, A3?

Which year?  I believe they were discussing 69s and you have a 67?  Emission standards changed in 68 model year.

Good call, Pete. I was asking which would be correct for my car, a '67. I'll admit, I got a bit nervous that I had made an expensive mistake in the restoration process of the car. I wasn't consciously trying to hijack the thread. My emotions took over and I forgot the year that the discussion based upon. Again, good call. And I apologize for any confusion I may have caused.

Restoration / Re: GM hood hinge springs

I decided to have my hood springs phosphated right along with the hinges, hood release, lower pulley, just to keep the rust at bay. I knew it wasn't technically correct, but just wanted them protected from future rust.

The first place IMHO that would know if it was required would be in the NCRS judging manuals at least for Corvettes and not aware of anything like that. Orientation would add cost and in mfg. there has to be a reason. Thought provoking question.... :)

Hi Chick!

We used to PM back and forth on the Camaros.net forum a couple years ago. Same Buzz. I lost steam on my project when the wife developed cancer. I've since got a renewed drive as she's expressed the desire to see the car finished before...well...you know.

Good to hear from you! Thanks for the reply!
Buzz
Oh Buzz, good to read your note and PM me as my wife went thru the same thing 12 years ago. Many thoughts your way for your wife, you and family.

Thanks, Chick!! And I very much look forward to chatting with you - I always learn so much!

Well, I bought a length of 1/8" round cold roll steel today that is just .004 larger in diameter than the stock choke rods I've measured. So when I get a chance, I will get started at forming a replacement rod.

WHAT WOULD BE THE CORRECT AIR CLEANER FOR A 69 CAMARO L35 WITHOUT A/C AND A AUTOMATIC ALSO SHOULD IT HAVE CHROME OR PAINTED VALVE COVERS  THANKS

I'm terribly confused now! (imagine that!)

I began reading through the other thread that Mike referenced and everyone began responding regarding their air tube/hose/elbow and so forth. When I purchased my car, it had an open element air cleaner with a base that did NOT have the air tube/hose/elbow, along with a simple breather cap.

I assumed that to be the original as it had the chrome lid and looked just like the breather setup on AIM L35, A8. All that was missing was the 396 Turbo Jet 325 hp decals. I understood this to be the baseline air cleaner breather setup. All the air tube, hose and elbow components are part of the breather setup on K24, A3 which I thought was an optional breather system.

SO which is correct? Both? Which was the STANDARD setup? L35, A8 or the K24, A3?

Originality / Re: Correct starter restoration
« on: September 07, 2018, 07:21:23 PM »
The Pirkles did my alternator and the car's born-with starter. It came back as described in Chick's post, with the entire starter (other than solenoid) painted black. Hope this helps!

Buzz
What is the P/N on the solenoid? I have the original starter in my 67 04B LOS L35 and the solenoid still has remains of black paint. The solenoid P/N is 1114362.

Mike

OH GOSH, Mike! I don't know! It was whatever the Pirkles put on there when they restored it. I simply checked the starter P/N and date and was stunned to learn it was the born-with starter for the car. There were a LOT of components I had to purchase to get the original motor date correct again and the starter was one of the FEW things that didn't land on the list of things to correct or replace. But I believe it had been serviced and the original solenoid replaced.

The second owner of my car had a brother that owned a garage and towing service. This brother also drag raced every Sunday. So, not only was the car serviced there, it also got a hop up treatment. This involved a spreadbore Holley, Accel distributor, Hookers and a set of Lakewood traction bars. The stock 3.08 gears got replaced with 3.73s. I was lucky enough to recover the born-with exhaust manifolds. But the original carb and distributor were gone forever, as was the water pump. The rear gears I didn't care about. I don't like high ratio gears.

As with everything else, I'm sure the solenoids have a date on them somewhere. To be honest, I never checked it to see if it was date correct. I believe the Pirkles replaced the solenoid that was on the starter when I sent it to them. And the starter is already on the  car. Can the P/N and date code be seen and read as installed in the car?

I believe that will do me. My choke lever is ever so slightly different. I imagine it's just because that's how Carter chose to manufacture it. But I believe I will pattern my home handcrafted linkage after yours. And finish it the same.

You have a very nicely detailed motor! I went out to take some pics of my motor today, but the batteries were dead, much to my surprise! And not enough new ones to replace them. We'll be going to town tomorrow and AAs are on the shopping list.

What is left of them usually sticks to the firewall. If you have redone the firewall it is gone.

OOooh yeah!! The entire body was sandblasted and painted. So if the old one was on the firewall.....it's no longer with us.

Thanks,
Buzz
