General Discussion / Re: Bloomington Gold adding Camaro's for 2019
« on: January 01, 2019, 10:51:31 PM »
I know a guy that has been into cars for a long time and does his own restorations (very nice ones).  He wanted a mid-year Corvette because he liked the styling.  Found a '63 project in a barn in MI back in the 90's, when he went to pick it up, the owner told him he laid some parts for the car on the floor of the front seat.  When he looked in and saw a FI unit, he about crapped!.  It did turn out the be a legit fuelly so he restored it as such and started taking it to Corvette shows.  He told me that he literally had other car owners chew him out when they saw him dragging lawn chairs our from behind the seat - said he was "disrespecting the car".  He doesn't go to Corvette shows any more.

Here are some shots of the carpet and sound deadener.  Owner from the late '70's told me that it was all original carpet, the two owners between him and I confirmed they did not change it.  All the sound deadener pcs. definitely are legit originals.  The rear carpet had been replaced - found a tag that states 8 8 79 and you can tell the backing is not "factory".  The front piece however appears to be original, albeit "hacked up" pretty badly when the automatic was installed in the late '70's.  I'm posting this only because of the chalk writing found on the underside of the front carpet.  Anyone else ever see this on an original set of carpet?  If the opinion is this is not original, I'll delete this post.

Here's some photos of those little white paper tags that are stuck to each door shell as well as each rear interior shell panel.  They are tough to read, but it appears that one says "RUN 38" and another says "NOR 38".

Here's some pics of the interior trim panel backing cardboard.

Note there is more blue overspray on the rh upper side panel than the left. John Z stated that Fisher hung the cowl vent grille along the side of the roof for paint.

The photos posted are a little deceiving on this point as I had not yet wiped off 49 years of dust ;D Here's a couple more that still support the point, just a better perspective (and dust wiped off) on the true difference for this car - definitely more paint on the RH side.

Restoration / Acceptable date codes - 1969 427 COPO Camaro
« on: December 27, 2018, 10:24:30 AM »
Posted this over at SYC also.....Trying to track down a few items for my car (09D 1969 Camaro) and notice a lack of parts dated July-Sept. of 69. I've read that the 499 dizzy was last produced with an April date....what about things like 163 intakes, 837 alternators, 291 heads, exhaust manifolds, starters, etc. Was there a gap in production at some of these manufacturers due to the 1969 design carryover into mid-November? Any insight appreciated!

Restoration / Re: Body Mount Tape - Width
« on: December 27, 2018, 12:48:46 AM »
Just checked mine quick - nothing there.  Shocks are not original and that area of the car would get a lot mortar/moisture disturbance from the rear tire.  As brittle as my subframe tape is, I'm guessing the rear shock tape would not survive.

This is not definitive as the tape is very brittle and curled a bit on the edges, but here's a measurement from a "tail" I removed from a 15,000 mile car this morning.  If I was to venture a guess based on this piece, I would say it's close to 2 1/2".

Thanks for posting, is the tape from a 69 Camaro? Is your 2 1/2" figure based on your estimate of the width of the tape or the length?

Yes, 69 Camaro.  There was a tail on each side of the bushing, the tail in the photo was toward the front of the car.  I say it's width because it seems counter-intuitive to say that someone would tear or cut tape shorter than the width.  Anyone know what the hole diameter is on the floor pan?  One can safely assume that the tape width is slightly larger than the hole diameter so the worker at Fisher didn't have to pay too much attention when performing this task.

General Discussion / Re: BE rear end
« on: November 30, 2018, 12:29:11 AM »
Ok I heard a guy on the internet say .... the BE code on a 1969 Camaro rear end has something to do with a person named Bob Edwards. Who is Bob Edwards?

His real name is Carl Bob Edwards.....he goes by Bob because the "C" was "peened" out ;D

Thank you for posting all these photos gma, this is a thread I will likely reference quite often.  If you get a chance to photograph Bothe the underlayment beneath the carpet and the underside of the drivers side carpet, I would definitely have an interest in those areas.  Thanks again for creating and maintaining this thread!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Opinions on BE rear stamp
« on: August 08, 2018, 09:32:26 PM »
Thanks for your input William, I appreciate it.  I had no idea they did a 6 week shutdown that might explain why there were two assembly dates in September.  Are there any assembly dates in August that you know of or was the whole month skipped due to that shutdown?

Casting date is D28 9.  Any issues with a 2 month spread between cast and assembly?

What does the community think about this stamp?  Legit or not?
