Decoding/Numbers / Re: Thoughts about the date stamp
« on: January 15, 2020, 06:46:22 PM »
Jim, what is the production date of your 68Z?  I'm also on the hunt for a carb and that date looks really close to what I would think I should have.  I've found a couple of 7A- dates but never a 7B- for my 12/23/67 build car.  If you weren't interested in that carb I would like to know more about it if it's for sale

General Discussion / Re: '69 DZ carb restored, on Facebook Marketplace

I was also thinking they should be a little more yellow/goldish.  It's been a while since I purchased a new Holley but I was thinking they were.  The reason I was asking is I'm looking for a what I think would be a little hard to find date 4053, somewhere in the early to mid 11/67 range.  I found one that the metering blocks, base plate and stampings look legit but I've seen so many variances in what I find with finishes.

I was curious as to what others thought of the finish on this carburetor, it seems to me that there is a noticeable variance in many of the yellow chromate ( I assume) finishes from one "restored" carburetor to another.  This one being more faded and looks closer to several older carbs I have sitting around.  What would a correct restored carb's finish be?  Any pics?

Milton products are high quality for sure.  That's all I use for all of my air line fittings and couplers as well as their tire inflator/gauges also

they are built in my town but I've never heard of them.  I might have to go take a look just out of curiosity

Thanks for pointing that out Paul.  I was searching for it spelled correctly but evidentially wasn't paying attention while posting.  I did also find several random advertisements but was more so looking to know if they had any kind of interesting history or connection with high performance cars in their past

My 12D 1968 Z28 was ordered new there, they are claiming to be the 2nd largest corvette dealer in the world.  I'm guessing they have been into performance cars since there founding being they had such an early Z28 on the lot but have not been able to find any information on the history of the dealership that verifies this.   The original dealer principals have since passed away and I've reached out to the current generation that operates the store but thought if anything was known it would probably known here.

You might want to question your machine shop as a 1967 327 has a small journal crankshaft.  I'm unaware of any small journal 350's

General Discussion / A happy day!!!

After many years of trying I just located the 2nd owner of my 68Z28, he bought it in 1969.  I'm in conversation with his son and the mother currently and waiting on the father to chime in.  They are divorced but I shared pictures with the mother and she has confirmed it was theirs and vividly remembers driving around pregnant with the son in the car.  We believe there are numerous pictures and stories to come.   Sometime you get lucky if you keep trying!!!!!    More to come

General Discussion / Re: "muscle car" without posi
« on: June 18, 2018, 09:37:51 PM »
I have (2) 1971 GS455 convertibles and 1 has posi and one doesn't, totally identical cars.  I also have a 67 GS400 that does have posi as a comparison.  I always wondered about this myself but being that posi was an option on a Z28 (my 68 does have posi) I don't really think you can say posi would be the determining factor of a true muscle car.  I do think it's odd that someone would not have checked the box for it especially if you were choosing the higher horse power or larger displacement engine options

I also ran an L79 cam in one of my Camaros for years and it is a very good grind.  It will give you good street manners, a good sound and it runs strong thru out the rpm range.  If you use a set of 10 to 1 flat top pistons with a set of stock 461 or 462 heads and a Q jet you will have a very fun car to drive and it will be very streetable.  I ran more compression in mine with a set of angle plug bowtie heads that had a lot of work done to them and a little bit looser torque convertor w/4:11 gears and it would surprise a lot of people.  I will be using that same cam for a L48 car I'm building that will be completely stock except the cam.
