Maintenance / rear differential fluid
« on: August 14, 2020, 11:46:38 AM »
Hi there. My mechanic is going to change the rear diff gasket next week and I wanted to check what grade differential fluid was correct for my car. It is a 1968 RS / SS 350 L48 with it's original rear end.  If there is a particular brand then that would be good to know too. Also the quantity I need to purchase.

Many thanks in advance, Nigel

Dear Sirs, I am trying to locate the correct hose which runs from the right valve cover to the back of the air cleaner. I have a 1968 Camaro RS/SS with L48 350, 295 hp engine and original single snorkel air cleaner.

Please can you advise the correct GM part number and also where I may be able to purchase one.

Many thanks as always,, Nigel

Dear Sirs

I have a 1968 RS/SS Camaro with the L48 350 engine. When I purchased the car it had an Edelbrock cap on the valve cover (see attached photo) however I would like to replace this with the correct one for the car.
I am going to place an order with heartbeatcitycamaro for a couple of parts and would like to order this correct part as well. Please can you advise.
Mnay thanks, Nigel

Dear Sirs, Please can you clarify whether there should be a rubber gasket between the carburettor and the air cleaner on my 1968 L48 350CI Camaro RS/SS. The car has Rochester quadrajet and original aircleaner. Many thanks as always, Nigel

Maintenance / no fuel to carburettor
« on: June 09, 2019, 05:40:45 PM »
I would be grateful for any advice please. I have a 1968 Camaro RS/SS with Rochester quadrajet. I have been away for 4 weeks and when I tried to start the car today it will not fire into life. The problem appears to be fuel related. There is no smell of fuel in the engine bay despite trying to start the car with my foot on the accelerator. The fuel lines were all replaced 1 year ago so I do not think that is the problem The engine is turning over fine and the battery has full charge.

Any advice gratefully received,

Many thanks, Nigel

Originality / Fibre optics box on rear parcel shelf
« on: August 10, 2018, 11:03:38 AM »
Dear Sirs, I have the fibre optics option on my 1968 Camaro RS/SS however the box which sits on the rear parcel shelf is missing two of its three bulbs. The one remaining bulb is red however I would be grateful if you can confirm whether the other two bulbs should also be red? Many thanks

Dear Sirs, I have read a number of posts regarding certain exterior colors being an exception to the rocker blackout and I have had a look at the "Body Sill Color Exceptions" table on the website however I cannot find any mention of whether the rocker color (body sill color) on a 1968 British Green RS / SS 350 would be body color on black.

My car currently has body color painted rockers however it has had a respray in the past, before I purchased it.

The car is due to be resprayed in March and I really want to make sure I get the rockers right and I would be grateful if someone can clarify the color for me.

Best regards, Nigel

Restoration / British Green paint colour for my 1968 RS / SS
« on: September 22, 2017, 04:27:32 PM »
Dear Sirs, I would be grateful if you can confirm whether Chevrolet made a British Green metallic paint colour in 1968?

My 1968 RS / SS Camaro came from the factory painted British Green and the car is still British Green now however my mechanic has advised that there is a slight metallic in the paint.

We are trying to match the paint now as the rockers and the front wings need to be repainted.

The car has been repainted at some point in the past which might be the cause of the paint issue..

Any help would be gratefully received.

Best regards, Nigel

Originality / Correct tires for a 1968 Camaro RS / SS 350
« on: June 22, 2017, 02:07:34 PM »
I wish to install the correct tires on the original steel wheels on my 1968 Camaro RS / SS 350 which I understand are F70 x 14 Firestone Wide Oval Redline tires, however I have been told that the old style bias ply type constructed tire will track quite badly when driving along and not handle very well if I intend using the car for any reasonable length journey. Instead I have been told to install BF Goodrich Silvertown Redline radial tires.

Please can you confirm if this information is correct?

I am also trying to find out the correct width tire which came on the car and if all tires were the same width or if the rear tires were wider.

I would be grateful for your help so I can ensure I buy the correct tires.

Many thanks, Nigel

Restoration / Rochester 4MV Quadrajet
« on: April 29, 2017, 04:29:31 PM »
Can anyone recommend where I may be able to find a Rochester 4MV Quadrajet carburettor (7028212 DH / 1188) for my 1968 Camaro SS RS 350ci manual. I live in the UK and am struggling to find one. Many thanks, Nigel

I have just purchased my first Camaro, a 1968 Camaro RS / SS, dash vin is 124378N443468. The previous owner had added various after market engine parts and I wish to return the engine to original factory spec.

The engine now has headers however I want to replace them with the original manifold which I believe is casting number 3919803. I have found a couple on Ebay however one has the oil fill tube and one does not. Is the oil fill tube original factory spec?

Please can you also confirm if the correct air cleaner for the car is an L48 single snorkel air cleaner?

Many thanks in advance, Nigel

Decoding/Numbers / help please decoding a 1968 Camaro
« on: March 24, 2017, 03:31:43 PM »
Hi, I am looking to purchase a 1968 Camaro however the owner is stating that it is a RS / SS Clone. I have had a look at your site and decoded the car using the details the owner has sent and it would appear to be a L48 350ci 295hp engine matching to a Muncie 4 speed transmission.

Were all 1968 Camaro with a L48 engine SS cars?

The owner has no history of the car so not sure if it is a RS or a RS / SS. I can send photos if it would help. This is my first Camaro purchase and I don't want to get it wrong. Any help gratefully received.

The data tag is
ST 05E
TR 68   12437 NOR 142764 BODY
      721            Z2                    PAINT

The dash vin is 124378N443468

The transmission code is 18N443468 P8E16

The engine code is 18N443468 V0521MS

Many thanks, Nigel
