ok so i had an epiphany while reading your replies to my post,  the glass beaded part that i assumed was right came off the car as it was delivered to me, that number matches what Jerry says is correct so i got very excited, then you guys showed pics of the other number and give me info that lead to me being deflated once again. but the car was wrecked and has many boxes of parts that i been posting, i went to my shop and dug through the steering components and snapped  picks and this gear and pitman and idler are in that box. this gear is not on the car now, nor was it on the car when i got it....but its in a cardboard box that came with the car, i never really paid it much attention to it! (in fact started to let a friend have it)  if im not going crazy i think its the numbers you men are showing to be the 68Z,  so now i have a new question....
from these pics can we tell if this gearbox is what come on the car? 07b ?  please?????

Might be a service part, but that's a 69 part.
68 Z should be 3908391 with manual box.

Clarify something for me Kurt, I respect all of the facts and opinions I read and receive on here! But I'm confused on several issues one being this pitman arm.  Jerry M has that definitive 302 book, it list this number for 68, lists that 391 number for 67.....both manual steering.  He's a human so he might be wrong or it could be a misprint?

The pozzi article that I keep getting referee to indicates that the 391 was or is correct for 67, but was used at Norwood and van Nuys from March 68 to June 68 and references the from vin xxx to vin xxx maybe due to production shortage of 68 components?  It goes on to list those part numbers used it says 391 was the subbed number. My vin and build month (july) is outside that 67 parts subbed time frame.  To me that indicates that 68 models up to March and after June used a different pitman arm number?  Maybe the one mine had which is what the 302 book also lists?  I'm just playing piece meal detective.

Is your info based on info collected on the group's info or ???   Thx for the work you do!

Verify that part is 5.8" long.  I think that is the long PS Pittman arm.

My car is manual steering and I took this off my car? It has an M stamped on it for manual.  It meaured roughly 5-3/4 inches from center of hole to center of threaded shaft?  I know its what come off the car, just can't figure out if it's correct for a 68Z with manual gear.

Luckily the guy give me my money back. Good guy.
Chick and Mello
1. Is the thickness the bracket thickness or thickness from top edge of bracket to the slide adjusment slot and thickness from botto. Edge of bracket to the slide adjustment slot?

2. There are pics on here of unmolested Z engine compartments and one has a fabulous pic of this bracket where it bolts to the WP and it appears to be a smooth radius on the end?  The one I had purchased has flat beveled edges.  All the aftermarkets seem to have the beveled ends???????

3. A friend is also telling me that if you lay it on a tape measure there are differences in length , if this is true does anyone know what the length of the correct bracket is? And also a general thickness of the bracket?

What a joke! All that documentation has been modified. Ray Charles could see that....

Both of my MSO sheets (both Z's) are copies of microfiched documents; they are more distinct by far than this cobbled up mess.

Regards,
Steve
.    Can I get microfiche copies of mine?
