Originality / Re: Uniroyal Fastrack tire history and versions....
« on: August 09, 2018, 11:34:33 AM »
Wow that must be a Canadian made tire.
Was E78 14 the standard tire size?

Yes the base tire was E78-14, unfortunately they don't make them in reproduction, in white line application that's why I bought a set of original tires. In fact, Coker make this one, but the line is way too wide.... https://www.cokertire.com/e78-14-coker-classic-2-3-8-whitewall-tire.html

Originality / Uniroyal Fastrack tire history and versions....
« on: August 07, 2018, 12:55:46 PM »
Someone knows something about the history of the Uniroyal Fastrack tires ?

I wanted to have a real original setup for show purposes, so I bought a "survivor" spare tire, with XN coded rim (Rally). The tire on that spare is an Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line.

I bought another set of 4 Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line, coming from a 67 Mustang. The seller don't know when those tires we're originally installed on his car. I looked at the DOT, and it ends up by a 9, which means the built year is 69 or...maybe 79 ? On the sidewall, there a mention "belted", but there's no such mention on the spare survivor I bought. So they are different Fastrack version....any idea if the kit of 4 could been made in 1979 ? Was the Fastrack still available back in 79 in E78-14 size ? Or it's for sure a 1969 built date ?

Hope someone can help me to find out....

General Discussion / Re: Repro tach burned out
« on: May 29, 2018, 02:26:14 PM »
*update*

Finally found my answer recently, and it now works perfectly ! I'm so happy. I could ear a strange noise/sound coming out of my engine, and did not really care about for while. Then I realized it was related with the tach, as the needle was moving together with the sound...

That's my current regulator that was toasted and doing this noise, and probably sending more peak power to the 12V panel....and burn out 2 tach !

I changed it and everything works great, I'm so happy !

Originality / Which windows crank kit should I buy ?
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:32:35 PM »
My car is an 1969 RS, early built 9B. Daytona yellow, with 712 custom interior, center console, auto 3 speed (TH350), and V8 350 (LM1).

What type of windows crank kit should I buy and should been there originally: black or clear knob ?

This kit: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/20547/1968-1969-Camaro-%26-Firebird-Window-Crank-Set-Front-%26-Rear-With-Black-Knobs/

or that one: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/20548/1969-Camaro-%26-Firebird-Window-Crank-Set-Front-%26-Rear-With-Clear-Knobs-GM%23-9715291-%26-9717838/

Restoration / Re: complete brake booster for drum brakes: parts numbers
« on: September 07, 2017, 01:05:53 AM »
somebody knows what should be the code for the Camaro 69 drum brakes front and rear master cylinder? The casting number should be 5460465, but there's a lot of application using this casting number, what are the main difference ?

Like the eBay item I post just above is for an Oldsmobile.....with the same 5460465 casting number. Would it be ok ? If not why ? What's the difference ?

Thanks Richard, I appreciated. I'm ok with the booster, I do have one in restoration right now, and the date is slightly earlier than expected but it's ok.

It seems that the master cylinder has been used with many application. The link to eBay I put above, is the same casting number, but for an 1971 Oldsmobile.

Do you guys would trust it, used in that state ? Not sure I want to invest in a master cylinder rebuilt....

Restoration / complete brake booster for drum brakes: parts numbers
« on: September 06, 2017, 05:33:06 AM »
when I had my Camaro restored few years back, I've put a repro brake booster kit, from hbc. It works fine even if it's a booster for disc/drum, but now I'd like to have an original booster.

My RS Camaro, according to the POP has no power brakes originally. The previous owner decided to convert to power brake, so I'd like to continue that way. I do have 4 drums brakes, front and rear. So I'm looking for power brake, with four drums.....originally as much as possible, which parts are required ?

-I've found an original  restored brake booster, casting 3972

-I'm trying to find an original master cylinder, which should be casting 5460465. If I can't find one, I may use this one instead:

https://www.classicindustries.com/product/1969/chevrolet/camaro/parts/mc36233a.html

Wha do you guys think about this one from eBay (only the cylinder part): http://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/1971-Olds-Cutlass-Fback-Brake-Master-Booster-5460465/142498292422?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Otherwise, what other parts are required to complet my "brake booster" restoration ? What are the casting / part number ?

proportioning valve ?

line ?

distribution braket ?

Right now I'm using the following kit on my car: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/25780/1967-1968-1969-Camaro-%26-Firebird-Power-Brake-Booster-%26-Disc-Brake-Master-Cylinder-Kit-With-11%22-Gold-Iridite-Booster-With-Replacement-Style-Master-Cylinder/

Any comment and help are appreciated !

Originality / Re: Exhaust line for a small block: which one to buy ?
« on: September 04, 2017, 06:09:23 PM »
I'm sure Gardner is the best....but I have to be honest: my Camaro is only an RS, so doesn't worth as much as a Z or SS......and also it's very clean under, but not Showroom....

I believe that an aluminized 2" from any supplier (heartbeat, Rick's or Camaro Depot) should do a great job.....

I will not go stainless for sure.

Originality / Re: Brake booster: original colour ?
« on: September 02, 2017, 07:15:03 AM »
Yes, black paint is incorrect. The original finish was (yellow) zinc dichromate, often called 'gold iridite'.
That's exactly what I taught. Probably few people had the engine bay repainted in black and kept the booster in there for some reasons.

Anyway I'll searched somewhere else, not sure I'd like to scrape paint over such nice Finish

Originality / Brake booster: original colour ?

I know that most of the repro brake boosters are not painted, just plated.

What about the original ones in our cars ?

I'm looking for an original brake booster for 4 drum brakes, coded 3972, what should be the original finish ? I've seen some in black colour painted...was that a mistake?

Thanks !
