Originality / Re: Plug wire supports
« on: August 23, 2023, 06:42:30 PM »
Looking for big block wire supports.  Although they are out there, I can't seem to find the correct ones for my 67.  Any ideas?

That's the first thing I was thinking.  Power valve sticking open.  They do make power valve springs to match the manifold vacuum.  The weaker the vacuum, the weaker the spring needed.  If blowing blue smoke especially during deceleration, then valve seals (intake) and or worn guides could be the problem too, but you said it was a new engine. Was engine broke in properly?  Some take longer than others.  Just my 2 cents......

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted anything on here, so here is something I don't know if it's normal, or something isn't wired quite right....

I was checking the lights on my 67 RS/SS this morning, getting it ready for the season, (here in Minnesota it's kind of late this year) everything seems to be working ok...signal lights, tail lights, brake lights, headlights etc. with different combinations using them, but when I turned on the hazard flashers they work alone, front flashes normal, rear ones work normal, but when I turn on the headlights, the front ones flash in unison like they should, but the rear ones flash alternately from side to side.  But only with the lights on.  Not a big deal, but is this the way they are wired in 67?  I remember other later cars with side marker lights (turn signals) flashing alternately from front to side, but never noticed this before.   As a side note, the rear bulb sockets were replaced at one time as the old ones were problematic.  I wonder if they were not wired right?  I think I might leave well enough alone as I guess it really doesn't bother me.  It only happens when the lights are on and hazard flasher on.    :)  Leon in Mn.

Maintenance / Re: 396 L34 hard to start when hot

I thought I would chime in here as well as back in the day I  went to school on these vehicles (old school but not THAT old) and worked on them as well.  All of these comments are great, but another issue is fuel percolating/and evaporating in the float bowl at high temps.  This can cause vapor lock and like one poster stated to check the float level.  It can "blubber over" into the manifold and cause a temporary flooding.  Do you know for sure that you have the heat shield plate under your Quadrajet? I'm assuming you have the Quadrajet? If that is not in place and in the right position along with the gasket in the right position, it can cause many problems.  It can also burn out the plugs in the bottom of the carb which can leak fuel out of the bowl and into the hot manifold below, not only draining the fuel bowl, but causing flooding.  Sometimes hooking up another vehicle just gives the car that extra spin and voltage to overcome the hard start which normally it wouldn't need.  Try searching for "manifold hot slot problem" on these cars and you will find a lot of info, and what you can do if you didn't yet find the remedy.   Something else that would cause a flooding like scenario is to make sure your heat riser isn't stuck in the closed position .......Just something to think about if you are still looking for the problem.   :)

A wolf whistle is (sort of) shaped like a horn, which is sometimes mounted either on a fender or the engine somewhere and has a hose or piping going to the intake manifold, working on manifold vacuum.  A cable is attached to it and when the engine is running, or especially during deceleration when vacuum is highest,  the cable is pulled and the whistle emits a loud whistle.  You can vary this by the way you pull on the cable inside the car.  Kind of a "cat call" when going down the street when girls were present.......Look it up on YouTube.  I think they're  on there somewhere....  I put one on my 69 C10 truck.  It gets the attention!  The old vintage chrome ones are in demand these days.  :)

I can't really tell by the pics exactly where it is but is it possible someone hooked up a 'wolf whistle" back in the day and needed a cable to get the pull cable angle lined up for the right angle?  They were popular for a while.

I have a 69 C10 in redone condition, but not original by any means, to go along with my 67 RS/SS Camaro (mostly all original) so they go together to the local car shows.    Nice rides you have there!

Do you have the correct fan spacer?  The fan should not be too far into the fan shroud.  It should only be in slightly as to pull air out.  In too far just causes fluctuations in air flow.  You did say that you found the fan touching the back of the radiator?  Just throwing thoughts out there..........also 190 is not too hot.  Many engines with electric cooling fans, (I know yours is not),  did not kick their electric fans on until around 230 degrees Farrah Faucett.  :)

I got my posi traction sticker from Classic a few year back and it has held nicely around the edges, although I put it exactly where the old one was even though it was not centered.

Not sure if I should chime in here as my knowledge of Camaros are limited, but those 206 cars you are talking about, are you referring to the non power brake cars with front disc brakes and drum rears?  If so mine is one of them.  I do not have the original master cylinder on it now but do have the old one I took off.  I do not believe it is original either but could find out what the numbers are off of them or codes? if needed.  67 RS?SS with 396 and auto trans.

Is it possible to have a "twin" Camaro, meaning having the same serial number but one from the Los plant and one from the Norwood plant?  I know it would be different options but was wondering if any of you knew of your matching serial number Camaro from the other plant?  I would be curious to know what options were ordered on the other one.

Weatherhead.  That's interesting. I wonder how many are out there on different applications?   This is the first one I've seen like this.  All the others are turned the opposite direction.
