General Discussion / A sad goodbye
« on: December 04, 2014, 04:27:23 PM »
I want to thank everyone on this forum for all of the help they have given me over the past 3 years with the completion of my 1969 Z 28.  This morning the car was a casualty for a new home.

I have informed the gentlemen that bought it he should join this great site!

Thank you, again, and Happy Holidays to all!

Originality / Timing of 69 z 28 302
« on: November 11, 2014, 03:19:04 PM »
I am going to check the timing on my stock 69 302.  Correct me if Im wrong please!  I want to check the timing at 3500 rpms with the vacumn advance off and plugged.  See where the timing is.  If it is at like 28 degrees I now back it down to idle of about 850 or so set the timing at 8 degrees. That will bring total timing to about 36.  Hook the vaccum advance back up and tighten down the distributor and good to go?  Is this correct or am I missing a step?

What does age have to do with what the concourse judges are saying at the Camaro Nationals.  Just because your car came with them may not mean they all did.  I have done a lot of research on this and have come to the conclusion that some came with 4 clip and some came with fingers.  Just like some cars got certain bolts and some cars got different ones.  Remember that this was the 60's man and it wasn't so monitored as it is today.  Just saying if you take your car to the most prestigious Camaro show in the country, with some of the most qualified judges (Jerry MacNeish and Larry Christensen, they judged my car)  That's good enough for me.  PEACE AND LOVE

There are many posts in reference to this, I have an 04D 69 Z and it has been to the Camaro nationals twice, 2013 and 2014.  I have the finger clips all the way around and they passed.  It is "undetermined" what was actually used, lots of opinions.  My car scored 4857 out of 5000 points and I have spent many tireless hours making sure this car is factory correct.  After talks at the show with the prominent judges they are excepting both 4 clip and fingers so I have been told.  There are no dates on the trim rings and center caps.

Good Luck in your search

As I mentioned in previous threads I believe that both at some point where used on the 69 z's.  It is always good to agree to disagree and move on to the next fun subject.  Hope everyone is having a great summer!!!

I just recd info from the NCRS that states my car ship date was 04-24-1969.  It gave me the zone and the dealer number.  It was sold in San Francisco By A chevy dealer called David Varner Chevrolet.

Was it worth the 50.00 to get this info?????  I guess for the amount of money that we all spend on these classics its a small price to pay for documentation.

The question about the rings was asked directly to Jerry and he said they are accepting both.  I got full point credit for the finger style trim rings.  Truth is no one knows for sure what came on the cars.  My opinion is that at one point in 69 both were used.  Again this is my opinion and others have there opinions and that is ok.  If you have 4clip you will be ok too for the nationals as well as the finger style.  Waiting for Shannon to help me post pix lol

It was a great turn out!!  With the weather iffy all the cars got in and out of the building without issue.  My second trip netted a score of 97.1 or 4855 points out of 5000.  A lot is owed to Bob Harris, Larry Christensen, Brad Mcadam and Jerry Macneish.  They all helped me over this past year to bring the car to this point.  I will post some pictures of the car at the show shortly.  I like the fact that they were very clear on how certain things should be on this car (1969 Z-28 LA car lemans blue)  It seems that all the discussion and research has clarified just how this car came from LA plant in April 1969

Its not really semi gloss but more of a flat gloss.  The black should end underneath the chrome rocker trim about in the middle.  I went through this when my car was certified by Jerry and it has been at the nationals last year with the correction that was done approved.
