6-cylinder Camaros / Re: Getting ready for the big show in Pomona Oct 22
« on: December 31, 2023, 06:45:49 PM »
Just seeing this for the first time (now nearly 3-mos old). Didn't know there was a 6-cyl discussion board... only rarely do I notice the second half of home page (arrgh).  Engine compartment looks good! The lifted 4x4 Mustang is mind-blowing! Looks like i missed a fun event. But one question...

Dinner at the Pomona Valley Mining Co!
...with fresh burgers serving hot off the grill at the In-N-Out Burger anniversary show ?? (LOL)

Must see to believe... These guys put a 6.2L LS3 Camaro motor into a Tesla and took it to SEMA...

The Rich Rebuilds team had a dead Model S. They fixed it with a Camaro engine.

Site Comments/Discussion / Re: 67 Pacecar Report
« on: October 21, 2023, 07:37:00 AM »
I just noticed this yet-unanswered question from a year ago. The "Site Comments/Discussion" section is near bottom of the CRG page... Never noticed it before!

Although this is an old thread, adding the following info in case anybody else is looking... There is a lot of good information at the 1967 section on the IPC site: http://www.camaropacecars.com/
( alternate URL:  https://www.camaroipc.com/ )

I'll second this motion... good idea! There's an 'Events' section at YENKO, for one example...?

General Discussion / Re: Paint Finish on Dash
« on: October 15, 2023, 07:21:08 PM »
May I suggest, proceed with caution using the suede additive. We had a lot of difficulty doing my dash top (this was in 2013 using now-discontinued PPG lacquer formulae). The first batch of paint, mixed per the 'cookbook recipe', sprayed up way too rough. I described it then, as approximating the texture of around 120-grit sandpaper. The original cars we were comparing to*, had a texture more like 600-800-grit sandpaper. We tried, unsuccessfully, several iterations of tweaking the mix, and different application techniques. My painter (30+ years exp) eventually got fed-up with the trial & error, and did it his own way when I wasn't around... It came out GREAT! (like 'judges liked it' great!)

*Our benchmark textures were noted from 1967 LOS cars. I don't know if '67-'68 and/or LOS/NOR may differ (others may know?).

It's possible our problems might have been due to expired product? Maybe the suede gets old sitting on the paint shop shelf (along with the lacquer base) for decades?? I'm not a paint expert & can't say. I just know we sprayed-up at least 4 rounds of trial & error before my painter threw the instructions out the window.

Hope this helps...?

Charley- Come out! Did you take your car to Morgantown? Some said someone trailers from Phoenix.
Yes, i was in building A near the entrance. Any mention of 'trailer from PHX' would have meant me. I included some 'post-mortem' experiences to a recent discussion here (CRG) on shipping & transport. Also a couple photos to the discussion you started for 2023 Nationals.

If I decide to attend, probably be just me (not showing car) to just enjoy the show & concert (& burgers). Long round trip for 1-day event. If showing, probably wouldn't get more than 50 feet away from car (LOL).

See PM (David), for sidebar question...

David thanks for posting... thinking about it (not sure yet)... Sounds like a fun event (though a long single-day?). Seems not very often that events west of the Mississippi pop-up here...

Here is another link at YENKO; survivor L-78 car (Steve S.) at 2022 Nationals. There's more photos in this discussion (scroll down) including other '67's nearby:  https://www.yenko.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1595647&postcount=43

Don't know if these are NOR or LOS cars, others here maybe can clarify? I would guess most are Norwood cars simply by proximity, as this showing took place in eastern Pennsylvania...

Don't know how I missed this thread from 2017-to present?? I'm guessing the main focus of your question is on the stripe's lower termination?

Link here is a Norwood 03C survivor car... LOTS of photos at ---> https://www.mecum.com/lots/502577/1967-chevrolet-camaro-rs-ss-pace-car-edition-convertible/ .  I have LOTS of other photos & links I've accumulated over the years; but can't say for certain whether they're Norwood or LOS cars.

I can say, I have never seen the 'long tailed' header stripe (as illustrated on AIM pg L48/B2) on an original car. Have seen a number of cars (re)painted & striped this way, but none with original paint. I'm not saying there weren't any, just that I've never seen one. There are many here more knowledgeable than I, so if these did exist I'm sure someone will point out the correction.

The Stencils & Stripes stencil kit we used on my car (in 2013) was engineered to the 'long tail' (AIM) spec. Overall I felt the rest of the kit was very accurate and correctly proportioned. On my car we did not fully utilize the lower extension (long tail) and taped it off where I felt was the proper point. I was very happy with the results (photo).

Jim, Thanks for posting... Never before seen anything that clearly correlates the L-78 with the chrome air cleaner. '67 AIM gives different part#'s for L-35 and L-78, but differences not explained. Have heard much discussion and seen examples/photos, but not seen before in a document. If it's in CRG reports somewhere I've missed it...??

Restoration / Re: exhaust hanger, please help
« on: August 03, 2023, 09:36:20 PM »
A rivernut seems like great option, thank you. I wonder where I could find one for a single use w/o having to buy this

AMK has installation kits in multiple sizes ranging from $2.50-$5.50. Very hard to find on their website unless you know they're there (and persistent). Contents of the kit are basic parts-bin hardware... but nice to get it all in a baggie for a couple bucks. The catch is, $30 minimum order.

This search string:  https://www.amkproducts.com/search-result/?ser=rivnut  yields rivnuts in many shapes and sizes. Scroll to bottom and a second table lists the installation kits. There's also helpful photos you can get an idea what's in the baggie, with installation tips.

Somebody above suggested HFT... I didn't find any rivnuts (or tools) at HFT a year ago. Regardless; the procedure discussed at AMK requires no special tools you probably don't already have (i.e. allen wrench & open-end in appropriate sizes)

Guessing this is the second car??  (The black one).  I didn't get too many good photos (preoccupied).  UNBELIEVABLE CAR... 8000 mi.(?) BARN FIND

I did want to add my $0.02 worth regarding the paint questions above... Recognizing the different circumstances of their 'birth', i'm of the opinion the anomalies in coloration are 'correct' (or at least, NOT 'incorrect') for all 3 cars (strange as this may seem). The world of the '67IPC is a strange and sometimes mysterious place.  Rarely if ever is the opportunity presented to see some of these esoteric differences highlighted in side-by-side comparison! I don't want to sidetrack the discussion of all these other great cars with a bumpy detour down the IPC rabbit hole. If anyone has interest for more info., PM me and I'll pass along some reference links at the IPC site... /Charley/

I'm going to go out on a limb here; and guess Chick is referring to either, or maybe both, of these time capsules...??

The orange cars LOOK very similar but note 1) custom wheels on Exhibit A (above); vs. 2) Rallys & "Survivor" sign on Exhibit B (below)
