Restoration / Re: Posi tag on rear before or after painting
« on: December 31, 2017, 06:04:19 PM »
Thanks Ed.

So let me see if I understand this correctly....

1. All ‘67-‘69 tags should have the period after “DIFF” regardless of the diameter of the threaded portion of the plug.

2. The diameter being referred to by many of the repro suppliers is the diameter of the hole in the tag not the diameter of the threaded portion of the plug. For example HBC (

3. The tag being sold by Paragon ( has the period after “DIFF” but with the larger diameter tag hole which, for example, contradicts what the Camaro repro suppliers are advertising for the ‘68 and ‘69 tag. Did the Corvette use a different plug that would use the larger diameter tag hole? Will this tag work with the later 1/2” Camaro plug?

Sorry for the questions but I didn’t think a lousy period would cause me so much confusion.😁

Hmmmmm....ALL of the Camaro vendors sell a ‘68 and up tag with a 3/4” hole that have “Diff” without the period. Paragon sells one with the period but the hole looks to be 1”.

Did the ‘68 and up tag use a 3/4” or 1” hole? Is this a case where the Camaro repro parts are yet again wrong?

I asked this a few years back and it was DIFF.

Was it “DIFF.” for just ‘67 or was it that way for ‘68 and ‘69 as well?

Here is a thread on the Team Camaro site which discusses hood louvers. I’ve posted a few pictures in the thread which may help answer some of your questions regarding the silver paint....

Here is a picture of a "284" pump that I had. It was dated A256 (January 25 1966). Note that it has the flared outer lip and hex head bolts. Sorry but can't help you with the size and length of the bolt since I sold the pump a few years ago.

Hope this helps,

General Discussion / Re: 68 drivers side dual exhaust riv nuts

I had the same problem on my car. In addition to purchasing them through AMK, they can also be purchased through Heartbeat City (

You might be able to tap the new one in but there is a special tool that I used to mushroom the nut in the frame rail. If you don't mushroom the insert, the rivnut will just spin when you try to tighten down the bolt used to attach the exhaust hanger. Amazon has a wide variety to choose from...

Obviously the AIM is far from perfect, so I guess this is one of those occasions

Like you, I've been searching for the elusive bushing called out in the AIM for a long time. Guess we can now confirm that for what ever reason, it was never used. Hopefully we can put this one to bed once and for all.

I went down this path on my '68 L35 a couple of years ago and never did get to the bottom of what's correct.

Here is the thread I started which may help you.

BTW....I believe you are correct in that what HBC calls correct for this application really isn't but lack of confirmation of what really is correct has forced me to use this fitting.

I purchased my date coded carb for my 396/325 car from Custom Rebuilt Carburetors ( The owner, Philip is a great guy to deal with. Depending on the date code your after it looks like they have several available for sale.

Good luck!

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Hazard and Directional Flasher Date Code
« on: February 20, 2017, 11:53:44 PM »

I posted on what I found in my car ('68) in Chick's build thread.

Pure speculation on my part but the Tung-sol has an 803 code which could be January 3rd of '68.

The signal stat has a S048 code which could be in Julian format.

My car is a 01D build so these dates would line up with the build date.

FWIW.....Here are a couple of rear antenna pics I took today at the BJ auction to show the location.

First two pics are from a '68Z out of the Reggie Jackson collection. Next two are from a '67 that was the 13th Camaro built.
