General Discussion / Re: Chambered Exhaust Option - 69 Z
« on: December 20, 2012, 01:39:00 AM »
My 1969 Z that I purchased new in Tionesta PA , had chambered exhaust. Yes several times the state police questioned them and issued tickets , but told me that they would check with the Chevy dealer and if they were stock they would withdraw the tickets. They did and that was the end of it. I never went to a LICKem and STICKem inspection station, the chambers and headers always passed. The only other exhaust noise problem arose when I removed the rear over the axle part of the exhaust and directed the pipes to the side. It was OMG loud and I was busted, I had to put them back on.

I still live in Meadville, PA , can't find him. ??? I believe that picture was March or April 1969. The car was only one or two weeks from delivery at that time. I purchased the Z new from Kaputa Chevrolet in Tionesta PA. I had been looking for one and a friend told me they had gotten one in. The dealer told me that when he ordered it he requested the vinyl top to be deleted, but he was still surprised when he saw it on the transporter without the top. Eight years ago I gave Ray Goss, who was the third owner, all the documention; window sticker, finance papers, bill of sale, everything that I had been holding on to for years. When I bought the car, the dealer asked, " do you want the emission equipment left on the car or do you want it in a box in the trunk". I said " in the trunk". When I handed over the documents, I gave him all that smog stuff, except for the air pump, I had misplaced it. Those too tall slicks on the car in the pic belonged on a friend's Dodge 440 RT. The Z with it's stock 4:11's wouldn't turn em, and I ruined the clutch disc trying. Two weeks old and Chevrolet replaced the disc and ground the flywheel under warranty for me. My dad who was all about racing stuff, was p/o, he wasn't making the payments but couldn't believe that a new car needed to have headers and was less than a month old. :)  I never thought to make a copy of the window sticker/vin.

I have lost track of my old 1969 Z-28. It was in Meadville,PA owned by Ray Goss. I was told he moved ,his old # no longer works. I'm just interested in whether he still owns it, where it is and has he restored it. It is Hugger Orange, black stripes, no vinyl roof, engine was modified back in the day, angle plug, Lakewood scattershield and bars, 4:88 gears, crane roller rockers, etc. Anyone seen it or know the whereabouts ?
