Restoration / Re: Converting ‘68 front bumper to ‘67

Yes I read that link but it doesnt really answer the crux of my question: Can the 67 outer brackets be used on the '68 bumper if I drill the lower holes in the bumper? In other words are the top outer '68 holes in same place as '67?

Restoration / Converting ‘68 front bumper to ‘67

Years ago I purchased a set of nice clean core bumpers for my ‘67. Recently I noticed upon closer inspection , the front is actually a ‘68. I was planning to have them rechromed, can I just weld up the 2 extra license bracket holes and drill the outer lower holes and “make” a ‘67 bumper out of a ‘68? The chrome guys  would finish out the welds.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Question about 67 Trim Tag

Z was NOR only.

My 07B LOS 4N car has TR 765-Z on the tag. Doh, never mind, different Z sorry.

I have heard stories that when parts were replaced under warranty that local dealerships were told to destroy the damaged parts locally. Think sledgehammer.

I'm sure that was the "Corporate Policy" but in reality anything decent like a 302, 327, 396, 427 was probably made to "disappear". My uncle was a master mechanic at a prominent Chevrolet dealer in NorCal from 1964-1976. He had a '66 SS-396 Chevelle as his personal car and not surprisingly, he had several rebuildable 396's, 327's, muncies etc that were warranty pulls sitting in his garage. Bottom line, if it was desirable and  salvageable, it often found its way home from the scrap-heap with one of the techs.

Looked to me in the ebay item, why is the U the only digit that seems to be stamped deeper and you can read all of the letter

My guess....The gang stamp looked to be held at a slight angle and the 'U' being higher is more within the "strike" zone.

I agree, not only is the U deeper and out of line, but every other character is stamped light at the bottom except for the "U". So did the axle plant stamp the second code character separate? That U was clearly not in the gang stamp when the other letters were stamped.

"The fact that he photographed and showed those questionable items perhaps indicates that he purchased the car that way, and had no personal knowledge of the issues... restamp or not.."

Rule of thumb: Whenever a seller starts "playing stupid", be doubly suspicious!

Reading the description tells a story:

"1967 square traction bar 12 bolt camaro not a firebird repalcement correct with brackets. We are very knowledgeable about the correct parts you need for your specific restoration."

He is misinformed...that looks like a Firebird style square bar.

I'd believe that if he took listing down or corrected it after I messaged him on the fact that its a firebird bar and not a camaro.

Messaged the vendor "427 King" on the obvious ,  no response.

I've seen several complaints about other "prominent" vendors' shady practices lately (Made in USA stickers over "made in taiwan labels", continuously out of stock on a part so they can sell  "house" version,  advertising high quality part and sending crap, etc)

Between that and all of the scam cars out there, it's really discouraging.
