no the bolts did not bottom out. i just customarily use a flat and a lock on this type of attachment. clutch was purchased new by me and has seen lots of duty. all ran very straight and smooth. i believe this fan is original to the car. i'm not going to weld it. it's wall art now. i'll find a used one someday.

right, ok for show car but i would not want to have it hurt someone down the road. i was very lucky it didn't hurt me or anyone else. could have been really bad had it happened on the track. we were doing some spirited driving in the pits checking something out and it let loose. check your fans, guys.

in this pic you can see where it was cracked to the right of the right hand bolt. it just let go. luckily it went down and to the right in the area of the lower rad hose.

i've used them under 163 intakes. where is the interference on the 069 intake?

try turning the crankshaft. could be hitting front rods if at bottom of stroke.

IIRC the crossmember 'pad' where the trans mount sits is on an angle relative to the frame. it mimics the angle of the engine/trans ~5* nose up orientation. the upper steel skin has this area angle and cannot be seen unless you look at the crossmember out of the car. with the shift mounting holes on the driver side you have the correct angle for the trans mount.

one way to move the shifter to the left is to use a hurst spacer from another application but available separately. you will need longer mounting bolts.

i worked in the dealer when these systems were offered on GM cars.
the problem you are describing came up from time to time.
we would remove the underhood regulator unit and send it out for repair.
i think the places that fixed the delco radios and GM speedometers were the guys who fixed them
but i'm not sure exactly where they went for repair.
