Mild Modifications / Re: 67-69 Firebird cowl panel fit 69 Camaro?
« on: September 05, 2011, 12:15:29 PM »
Back in the late 80s I bought a 67 firebird with a wrecked front end. I replaced the front end with a camaro front clip. The firebird cowl panel worked with the camaro hood, but with the difference in the heights of the hoods, the firebird cowl sticks up above the camaro hood.    It would be best to modify the camaro cowl.

There are holes on the bottom side of the frame crossmember, to reach the nuts just use a socket with an extension. A good tip is to tape the socket on to the extension before you try removing the nuts, when you try to pull the socket out, it catches the side of the hole and the socket falls off down inside the frame.

General Discussion / What is a COPO 427 block worth
« on: December 10, 2010, 12:44:44 PM »
I have a COPO 427 block I want to sell to the cars owner, the block is in great shape, bored 30 over but fully useable. all stamps are there and easy to read.

What is this worth to the cars owner?

Or maybe the better question is, how much will the original block raise the value of the car?

I talked to Wayne tonight, He wants the block, we just have to work out the details.

Thank you to everyone who helped me to contact him.

Does anyone know what the value of the original block to the cars owner would be, I dont expect a fortune, just todays market value. I would apreciate anyones input on this.

Thanks,  Mike.

General Discussion / Re: factory 1969 12 bolt pinion angle
« on: December 04, 2010, 03:26:09 PM »
The springs do not sit level in the car. If you measure from the ground up to the front eye of the spring, then measure from the ground up to the rear eye of the spring  you will find the rear sits about 7 inches higher.
The correct way to set the pinion angle is with the rear end in the car.  Set jack stands under the rear springs so they are holding all the weight of the car,set your new perches on the springs then set your axle housing on the perches.  using an angle finder measure the angle of the output of the transmission then set the pinion angle a couple of degees down from that. Center the housing from side to side and tack the new perches in place, then remove the rear end and finish welding out in the open.
   I hope this helps,  Mike.

I bought the engine in Kawkawlin Michigan, about 35 miles North East of merrill, from a man who bought it at an estate sale. An old man passed away and this engine sat in his garage for years. I didnt get the old mans name.
The engine was missing the crank, but the rods and pistons were there, and it had the wrong heads with it , closed chamber rectangle ports but with the wrong dates, the intake could be original, the date is correct. the carb and all of the external bolt ons were gone also. Not to suprising after 40 years i guess.

I live in Midland  Michigan,  about 25 miles north of Merrill, so the engine hasnt traveled very far.            Mike.

I have a 1969 427 copo block  MN code with the partial vin of    19n620036 .  The block is in great shape with no cracks or damage. I googled the vin number and found an old ebay listing from 2005 for the car this engine goes to. originaly golympic gold but repainted garnet red, somewhere in florida.  I would like to see this block reunited with this car if possible.  does anyone have any information on this car?.
