Re: 1969 Standard Coupe VIN  124379N598131

Thanks for checking Ed. Pardon my taking the opportunity to learn something here...What does it mean that this VIN is not listed in any database?  Phrased another way: How does a VIN get listed in a particular database?

Restoration / Re: Paint choice for subframe and a-arms ?
« on: June 28, 2012, 10:57:45 PM »
I used a product called Zero Rust. Comes in black and other colors. It's labeled a "primer", but serves as a "paint" coat -- no additional top coat required. I think it has the correct "sheen" you are looking for. I used it on my undercarriage -- subframe, A-arms, etc. Comes in spray aerosol can and brush on quarts. Zero Rust also has an aerosol clear coat which adds a level of gloss.  I purchase Zero Rust from Auto Body Store. This site also provides a wealth of tried and proven information/forum that speaks to anything from rust repair, sheet metal work, to priming and painting -- with a host of products for any job.  Give it a look:

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Holley Carb

I also have a Holley 1850 carb decode question. The numbers are 1850-4 and 3074. It sits atop a 1971 Chevy SB V8 307cid. Any decode assist is appreciated. Thanks.

I read the below JohnZ reply to a previous topic post regarding pedal height for a power drum to disc front brake conversion. Pertained to the brake lamp switch striker (part #3917957) that bolts in the upper hole of the brake pedal assembly.

"That striker goes in the UPPER hole in the pedal (the hole that's used for the pushrod clevis with manual brakes), and it operates the brake light switch. See the A.I.M., J50, sheet A3, item #3."

My question: I am upgrading my 4-wheel manual drum brake system to 4-wheel power drum brakes. Do I need the striker? Is there a different brake lamp switch required when going from manual to power?  If I need these, any recommendation for a source(s) where I can acquire quality repro parts?

Maintenance / Accelerator Controls Dissassembly
« on: May 17, 2011, 12:08:47 PM »
Reference 1969 Camaro AIM UPC 6, Sheet D1. I have a V8 SB automatic. In the disassemby and removal process of the accelerator lever, firewall support, rod, and pedal. I removed the 2 firewall support screws and the bolt, washers, and nut from the lever arm (part #3923503). My question: How do I remove the lever arm from the end of the rod (part #3909980)? Does the arm simply pull off of the notched end of the rod? Sorry for the rather elementary question, but I don't want to spend a lot of time or frustration factor on this.

Restoration / Re: Fuel Line Removal 69 Coupe - How To
« on: February 20, 2011, 10:34:25 PM »
Jim W,

Your reply is spot on...exactly what I needed and wanted to hear. I did buy OE replacement steel vs SS. I was thinking about (and will do) the hack saw approach for the quickest removal. I will be doing the job solo as well, but will heed your advice and take my time (along with a few time outs). I anticipated having to correct a couple minor unintended bends at the front end during the install. Thanks much for the assist.

Restoration / Fuel Line Removal 69 Coupe - How To
« on: February 20, 2011, 03:25:31 PM »
I am replacing the 3/8" single fuel line (fuel pump to tank). Fuel tank is removed, disconnected at fuel pump, line fasteners removed; line is hanging loose ready for removal. I viewed related posts here on the subject and the AIM and Service Manual...but need help on the actual old line removal and install of new line. Bend and routing at passenger side subframe is the real challenge. How do I remove the fuel line? With the exception of the parking brake cabling, I do not want to loosen subframe bolts, remove fender, etc if at all possible. New line came with shipping bend. Do I leave the bend in the line and straighten during the installation? Sorry for what seems a basic procedure, but I need to get the old line out and new line installed with no damage. Thanks.

Restoration / Grounding Strap Locations (underhood) 1969 coupe/SB
« on: November 11, 2010, 05:15:53 PM »
I want to ensure I have identified (location/quantity) all of the underhood (engine bay) grounding straps to check their condition and proper connection before determining replacement on a 1969 coupe with a stock Chevy SB engine. 4-wheel manual drum brakes, power steering, no a/c, non-HEI distributor-ignition. I may have overlooked the grounding straps and each location in the AIM assembly and service manuals. I am seeking member(s) help in providing: List of all underhood grounding straps? Each grounding strap location (each strap end connects to...)? Function? Any assistance is much appreciated.

Thanks jacmac,
I will use the reference you provided (page 7 of the Chassis Service Manual) once I receive it in the mail. In the meantime, I decided to start with cleaning the engine compartment; probably the right place to start anyway before tackling the undercarriage. Doing so will allow me to see what I missed on the lower parts of the engine bay once I get the front end safely up off the floor. Appreciate your quick reply.
