Originality / Re: 1967 12D RS SS paint details
« on: March 15, 2013, 04:30:50 PM »
Thanks for the info.  I look forward to the summer when you get a chance to take some photos.  So the black rocker paint like should be taped off through the center of the rocker spear fastener holes?  Since you also have a 12D car (hopefully original paint stripe photos) this would prove to be very valuable.  The measurement to the base of the fender to figure out the angle of the stripe behind the bumper for a 12D car would be a huge help.  Here is another active post going on over at camaros.net with photos of an April stripe but I want to confrim the lower tape line measurements for an early build car.  http://www.camaros.net/forums/showthread.php?t=217310

Originality / 1967 12D RS SS paint details

Details of my car can be found in my signature link below but summary is 1967 12D RS SS350 Granada Gold convertible.
I am getting ready for paint and am looking for specific paint details or original photos for 2 areas:
1. Rocker blackout (RS Z22 package)
- Where should the paint line stop?  Does it extend into the door jam or was in taped off to the center of the rocker spear?  It is a hard paint line or feathered?
2. SS nose stripe (Bumble Bee D91 style)
- Specifically for a 12D car, did the stripe go all the way to the bottom of the fender and wrap around to the valence OR did it stop behind the bumper?  If it stopped behind the bumper is there a rule to follow for where to stop?  Should it be straight to the fender extension joint or at an angle?
Thanks

IZRSSS,
As requested, here are some details about my car and a photo from before I cleaned up the engine bay... I have lots of photos and paperwork if you need anything else.  It still has the original windshield and vert top.  Too bad for the 80's paint job.

The options and details are in my signature link and CRG has photos of all the stamps in the database.

So it was changed at the factory at the same time as the letter went out... that makes sense.
Thanks for the help.  I will reply to your L48 thread as requested.

Thanks guys...
"Originally, the 1967 Camaro was labeled as a 5-passenger vehicle and 2 sets of front lap belts and 3 sets of rear seat lap belts were installed. Soon after the start of production, the rating was changed to a 4-passenger vehicle and only 2 sets of rear seat belts were installed for the remainder of the 1967 production."

The way I read this, if your tire pressure decal says 5 passenger than it would have gotten 5 seat belts from the factory... since mine only had 4 seat belts and is rated as 5 pass, the 5th center seat belt would have been removed by the dealer.  My car bas built at the end of Dec 66 and sold in March of 67, since the letter would have come in February it would make sence the center seat belt would have been removed.  Now I need to find another 52-A-66 belt.

Out of curriosity, approximately when did this change from 4 pass to 5 pass?

When did the number of seat belts change in a 67?
I have a 12D 67 SS350 vert and it has a 3909997 tire pressure sticker that says" 5 pass + 200lb luggage" and has an H in the bow tie.  It only has 4 seat belts and I was wondering if a center rear seat belt was removed by the dealer or if it would have came with 4 from the factory.
Thanks

Are either of these correct?

Not that it is necessarily correct, but according to this '67 brochure the entire system was 2 1/4 with resonators...

Thanks for looking into it.

Thanks guys.  CRG has done so much for the camaro restoration community, it has been a great reference for me.

Regarding the muffler problems:
I spoke with Eric about the previous problems with his mufflers as I am also an active member on Team Camaro and I also read that thread.  He has sourced a new manufacturer that has made a new custom muffler directly from his original and assured me that the level of quality is now even better than both of his past manufacturers.

Size of exhaust:
I wanted to relay the message to you guys on CRG that there is concern over the correctness of the table listing that the L48 had 2" exhaust.
Can anyone from CRG comment on the diameter of the pipes from the manifolds?

What is the correct exhaust system and clamps for my 12D 67 RS/SS L48 4spd Conv.?

It is listed as a dual 2" for the L48 on the website... http://www.camaros.org/diffs67.shtml

Gardner exhaust has been mentioned many times on this forum as the place to go for a factory correct exhaust system.
Eric sent me the following message and we discussed the system for my car...
Vince,
Thanks for the inquiry. We can build a concours exhaust system for that car for you. It is best if you contact us directly so that we can discuss your system in its entirety with you. I can tell you that the orginal exhaust system was 2 1/4". A good deal of people think that the head pipes were 2" that is because they are swaged to 2" at the manifold and and swaged to 2" where they go into the over the axle pipes. I assure you the rest of the head pipes were 2 1/4".
We are looking forward to speaking with you.
Best Regards,
Eric Gardner
